After COVID-19 delayed half of all video games, 2022 has included many games delayed from their initial 2020 or 2021 release dates. The second half of 2022 is packed with new video game releases and August is no exception. August 2022 will deliver dozens of new video games, including the long-awaited Saints Row reboot, Massive Monster's Cult of the Lamb, and the latest installment in the Madden NFL franchise. Early August saw the incredibly successful release of the indie horror game The Mortuary Assistant, where players take on an apprenticeship at River Fields Mortuary with an occult twist.

So far, 2022 has included the release of smash-hit titles such as Pokémon Legends: Arceus, FromSoftware's wildly successful Elden Ring, and Horizon Forbidden West, the sequel to 2017's award-winning Horizon Zero Dawn. Arguably the most anticipated title of 2022 has yet to be released and, despite many rumors suggesting the God of War sequel could be delayed to 2023, Sony finally announced that God of War Ragnarök will arrive in early November.

Unfortunately, several of 2022's biggest titles have now been pushed to 2023, demonstrating the ongoing impact of the pandemic on the gaming industry. Earlier this year, just ahead of its major, joint conference with Xbox, Bethesda recently announced that two of its most awaited titles, Starfield and Redfall, are delayed to 2023. One of the most anticipated sequels of all time, Breath of the Wild 2, was also set for release in 2022 but has now been delayed until Spring 2023. Despite these setbacks, 2022 still promises to deliver a wealth of new gaming content.
