Atlanta season 3's release date is officially set for March 2022, bringing the celebrated comedy series back after a four-year hiatus. Created by Donald Glover, the FX dramedy centers on college dropout Earnest "Earn" Marks as he seeks to turn his life around upon learning of his cousin Alfred "Paper Boi" Miles making a rise through the underground rap scene in the titular Georgia capital. Atlanta also explores the lives of Earn's on-again-off-again girlfriend and baby mama Van and Paper Boi's eccentric right-hand man Darrius.

In addition to primarily writing and occasionally directing the series, Glover leads the cast of Atlanta alongside Zazie Beetz as Van, Brian Tyree Henry as Paper Boi and Lakeith Stanfield as Darrius. Having first premiered in 2016, the series has been a critical darling, scoring rave reviews for its unique storytelling, rich characters and Glover and Hiro Murai's direction. Glover would even go on to become the first African-American director to bring home the Primetime Emmy award for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series with Atlanta season 1 and three Emmy wins for season 2. FX and audiences are hungry for more of the series as the network went on to renew Atlanta for seasons 3 and 4 and after a prolonged development for the former, audiences have exciting news.

Nearly two months after unveiling the first teaser for the new chapter, the official Atlanta Twitter account has revealed that season 3 is set to premiere on March 24. The new premiere date comes after the show went on a four-year hiatus. Check out the announcement post below:

Development on Atlanta season 3 has seen a much rockier path than that of its predecessors, with filming suffering multiple delays first from scheduling conflicts in Glover's increasingly busy schedule with his Childish Gambino tours and roles in Solo: A Star Wars Story and The Lion King. Despite this delay, FX still went on to renew the show for season 4 with plans to film back-to-back, which was postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and would finally kick off in early 2021 in Europe. With filming on season 3 having wrapped this past August, the timing certainly lines up for Atlanta to return in its March 2022 release date.

With Atlanta season 3 officially coming after a four-year hiatus, it will be interesting to see whether the wait results in a large viewership boost for FX or see it struggle to recapture the same level of popularity. The cable network hasn't seen huge ratings in the past few years, though the first two seasons of Atlanta proved to be a major hit alongside FX's long-running titles It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and American Horror Story. Only time will tell how the new season performs when Atlanta season 3 premieres on FX and Hulu on March 24.
