Asus VivoBook 13 Slate OLED is an upcoming Windows 11 convertible tablet/laptop with a bright and vivid OLED display that costs just $600. Described by the company as both a PC and an OLED TV, it's a low-cost way to add a nice streaming video display that can also be used as a tablet, drawing slate, and laptop in a cramped dorm room or small apartment.

After the operating system's general release took place in October of 2021, Windows 11 laptops are now beginning to appear. Microsoft greatly improved the touchscreen interface, making Windows 11 tablets more practical when used without a keyboard or stylus. This involved spacing display elements a bit further apart and refining various controls to make selection and movement using only fingers much more reliable.

Asus' VivoBook 13 Slate OLED is an affordable tablet with a great OLED display, boasting a peak brightness of 550 nits and a contrast ratio of one-million-to-one. Arriving in December, the 13.3-inch display, protected by Gorilla Glass, has a 16:9 aspect ratio making it perfect for streaming movies and TV shows while enjoying the four-speaker Dolby Atmos sound quality. Creators will appreciate its DolbyVision support, Pantone Validated color accuracy and included pressure-sensitive stylus. A keyboard is also included, as is a stand that has several acrobatic tricks, including the option to be positioned upright in portrait orientation. The $600 price means there are some concessions and performance is where the entry-level pricing shows.

Asus ViveBook 13 Slate OLED Tablet Display

The VivoBook 13 Slate OLED is a good value at $600, but there are some trade-offs. Its Intel Pentium Silver N6000 processor will handle everyday tasks just fine, but might lag on heavier workloads. This is certainly not a Surface Pro killer, but it might work nicely for tablet use, light laptop work, and serve well as a drawing slate as it includes a stylus. Memory is at 4GB and storage at 128GB, with options to customize both for those that need more. Windows 11 Home is included and the VivoBook 13 Slate can be updated to Windows 11 Pro.

Software bundled with the VivoBook 13 Slate includes a one-year subscription to Microsoft 365 Personal, WPS Office Standard Edition, and Office Home and Student 2021. While that is nice, a drawing app would have meshed better with the vibe of this tablet. The VivoBook 13 Slate has a 1080p resolution, fingerprint unlocking, quick charging, and a good selection of ports with two USB-C, a headphone jack, and a microSD card reader. Asus claims a 9.5-hour battery life with quick charging to 60-percent in 39 minutes. Asus' VivoBook 13 Slate OLED is an all-around nice, entry-level tablet that excels as a drawing slate, and its bright and colorful display should make for a great video-streaming Windows 11 device with an amazingly flexible stand.
