The Asus ROG Phone 3 gaming smartphone is the company’s latest powerhouse that should appeal to hardcore gamers. Packed with specifications that seem comparable to systems such as the Sony PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One X, but in a smartphone package, Asus’ ROG Phone 3 looks like a gamer’s delight. Built with a killer display, long battery life, smooth playback and supreme graphics, the ROG Phone 3 has a ton of additional high tech bells and whistles.

Asus has been mostly known for its highly-rated computers, but it has gained market share with its smartphones and the ROG Phone 3 is the company’s most recent release in its popular gaming phone series. The new phone improves upon the previous ROG Phone II with slight but significant upgrades. The main upgrade buyers can consider is the inclusion of the 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus 5G octa-core processor. This faster 3.1 GHz chip should provide gamers with increased performance overall.

The ROG Phone 3’s body is ultra slick and comes in a “Black Glare” color. The back of the body has a red logo and three rear cameras. Turning the phone over, the screen is a 6.59-inch AMOLED HDR display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and a 144Hz refresh rate. Improvements that have been made to the ROG Phone 3 over the previous model include a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, Corning Gorilla Glass 6, and 650 nits outdoor-readable brightness. Besides, being HDR10+ certified, the phone also comes with features to protect the eyes, including TÜV Low Blue Light and Flicker Reduced certification. In addition, there's two SIM card slots, 4G and 5G support, and the entire ROG UI comes built on Android 10.

Playing today’s modern games require a lot of internal horsepower, and a lack of memory and internal storage can hamper game play. The ROG Phone 3 challenges convention with the ability to upgrade the internal storage to 512 GB UFS 3.1 ROM and the LPDDR5 RAM up to 16 GB. The upgradable memory options should keep graphically challenging games moving on the screen with ease. The capacitive touchscreen has 10-point multi-touch support, and in cool weather, gamers can still wear winter gloves and play games on the ROG Phone 3, if they desire.

No modern phone is complete without still photography and video capabilities. The ROG Phone 3 is built to capture 8K UHD at 30 fps video footage through the main rear camera. The vaunted Sony MX686 64-megapixel image sensor processes video and photo images onto a 1/1.7-inch chip. Because of the larger chip size and increased 8K resolution, video and photographs should look very sharp. Additional video resolutions include 4K, HD, 720p, time lapse (4K) and slow motion up to 240 fps (in 1080p). The second rear camera has a 125-degree wide angle lens with real time distortion correction. The third rear camera can be used for macro photography. Not forgetting the front of the phone has a 24-megapixel camera.

On the audio side, the ROG Phone 3 features 192 kHz/24-bit high-end audio capability, “Game Mode” audio, “AudioWizard” which offers users various audio sound options, two built in speakers and a 3.5mm audio input jack for headphones. Rounding out the ROG Phone 3 is a quick charge battery, USB-C port, and various connectivity options including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.1. Overall, the Asus ROG Phone 3 gaming phone is loaded with enough features to keep buyers busy and happy.
