Asus has confirmed that it will reduce the prices of its RTX 30-series graphics cards starting next month. GPU prices have been at a record high due to an acute shortage in supply over the past couple of years. Not only have scalping and price-gouging been rampant during this time, but things have been so bad that even scalpers were struggling to get their hands on new graphics cards.

Now, however, there are signs that the tide could be turning and buyers could once again get their hands on decent GPUs without breaking the bank. For example, AMD's entry-level Radeon RX 6500XT is now selling below its MSRP in Germany, which aligns with earlier predictions that GPU prices could come down by the end of the year. The latest announcement from Asus is yet another indicator that the crushing shortage in GPUs and the associated inflated pricing era may be finally coming to an end.

Asus has announced that it plans to reduce the prices of its RTX 30-series graphics cards by up to 25 percent from April 1st. According to the company, the price-reduction will benefit all the cards in the RTX 30-series lineup, including the affordable RTX 3050 and RTX 3060, the mainstream RTX 3070 and the enthusiast-level RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 graphics cards. The reduction in prices will be on account of the U.S. lifting a Chinese import tariff, which is helping vendors save on input costs. Asus says it would be passing on some of the benefits to the consumer. It currently remains to be seen if other vendors, such as EVGA, Zotac, Gigabyte, MSI, etc. will make similar moves in the coming days.

A Price Reduction Is Most Welcome

While the reduction in MSRP is definitely a welcome move, it remains to be seen whether the cards will be sold at MSRP for a change. There's reason to be skeptical, as most of the cards are currently being sold at prices much higher than their MSRPs. There have been some notable exception from time to time, like the aforementioned dip in the price of the Radeon RX 6500XT, and the temporary sanity in the selling price of the EVGA RTX 3080 earlier this month, but those have been the exceptions rather than the rule.

While Asus is promising reduced prices for its RTX 30-series graphics cards, Nvidia is all set to officially announce its RTX 3090 Ti GPU on March 29th. Alongside the vendor-designed versions, Nvidia will also launch its RTX 3090 Ti Founders Edition model that was originally showed off at the Consumer Electronics Show 2022 in January. Expected to be the fastest gaming GPU in the market, the RTX 3090 Ti is expected to come with a hefty price-tag of at least $2,000. It will be interesting to see if Asus' decision to reduce the prices of its mainstream GPUs will have an impact on the pricing of the top-end card.
