Assassin's Creed Valhalla is the third game that pushes the series into a full-fledged RPG, and it sports a brand new time period and setting as well. Valhalla is bringing a lot of unique elements to the series, including a Viking settlement that players manage and build.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla looks like one of the most ambitious titles in the series yet, but Ubisoft is going all-in on it. There are a ton of different studios working on Valhalla, with one, in particular, making the main push.

Valhalla's systems are certainly inspired by Assassin's Creed Odyssey, but the game is being worked on by one of the most talented dev teams at Ubisoft.

As confirmed in a GameInformer interview, the main dev team working on Assassin's Creed Valhalla is Ubisoft Montreal, whose last game in the series was Assassin's Creed Origins. Montreal was the team that first introduced deeper RPG mechanics into the series, but they're also responsible for one of the most popular Assassin's Creed games, Black Flag. Both games helped introduce fresh ideas to the series and set the stage for the next Assassin's Creed game. Unity and Syndicate used Black Flag as a basis, while Odyssey used Origins as a basis.

Now, Ubisoft Montreal has the chance to redesign the series once again with Valhalla, and it's clear that they aren't holding back. Valhalla is already bucking trends in the series by giving players a home base that the story and gameplay revolve around. Montreal told GameInformer they want to deliver on a true "Viking" experience, and everything about Valhalla is being designed around that idea. Naval travel and combat are totally reworked around the iconic Viking longships, combat is going to be more brutal and bloody, and raids will be a major part of the experience. Based on Montreal's work with Origins and Black Flag, at the very least Valhalla will be quite a bit different from anything that has come before.

Valhalla Has a Lot of Teams Working on It

While each Assassin's Creed game has one main studio leading development, there are generally quite a few other studios working on a title. However, Valhalla has more studios on the project than ever before, at a whopping 14. For comparison's sake, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which is an utterly massive game, had 10 studios working on it. That may not necessarily mean that Valhalla is bigger, as there's likely a lot more work to be done considering it will be cross-platform with PS5 and Xbox Series X.
