Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Wrath of the Druids, the recently released first expansion to Ubisoft's sprawling Viking epic, sees game protagonist Eivor travel to Ireland for a new series of adventures. Upon arrival to this new region, Eivor is immediately swept into an ongoing enemy plot aiming to destabilize the city of Dublin and remove its king, Barid. After a brief welcome, Barid enlists Eivor in tracking down and subduing a disgruntled local Viking revealed to be behind the recent attacks; Thorstein. This guide will detail how the player can dictate - or appear to dictate - Thorstein's ultimate fate.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla, as well as its new expansion, offers several instances of player choice. These moments can range from deciding whether or not a character lives or dies, to determining Evior's romance options or simply providing a minor change in dialogue. While many of these choices result in unique and significant consequences, some only offer the illusion of choice, with specific story beats or characters' fates being locked in place either permanently, or to be resolved later in the game. Thorstein it seems is one such character.

Upon defeating Thorstein in his hideout, the player will need to carry his bound body to the King's Hall in the center of Dublin and present him to Barid and his son Sichfrith for judgment. Barid, being Eivor's cousin, asks the player for their advice, resulting in three potential choices; a dignified execution, a brutal death, or a display of cruelty. Each choice is followed by a brief explanation from Eivor, but in reality, there is no actual choice to be made. Regardless of what action the player chooses, Barid will ultimately strip Thorstein of all wealth and banish him from the region. While Sichfrith and Eivor voice their concerns, Barid overrules them in every scenario, stating he wishes to be seen as a Christian ruler with Christian values and casts out Thorstein nonviolently.

With the king's judgment levied, the mission ends and Thorstein is gone from Dublin. While it remains to be seen at this point in the DLC's narrative if Thorstein will return, his initial appearance will always end the same way. While Assassin's Creed: Valhalla offers several important player choices, Thorstein's initial fate in Wrath of the Druids is simply out of their hands.
