The second of Assassin's Creed Valhalla's two paid DLC expansions has finally been released, allowing players to roam the French countryside in The Siege of Paris. But players might be a little disappointed to discover that this DLC runs towards the short side.
The Siege of Paris was teased briefly in the recent Sigrblot Festival, a limited time event where Vikings make offerings to the gods in exchange for blessings during upcoming raids. During that festival, rumors could be heard of the riches of the Franks, and of the potential threat from their leader, Charles the Fat. The Siege of Paris, which released during the tail-end of the event, begins with two strangers arriving in the village of Ravensthorpe, seeking aid for a Viking clan in France. They make the case that if Charles the Fat is not defeated soon, his eyes will turn towards conquering those in England. Determined to head off a threat to the Raven Clan, Eivor travels with the strangers to see if there's any way to broker a peace.
According to the gaming site HowLongToBeat, The Siege of Paris is a fairly short experience, taking on average about 5 1/2 hours to beat the main storyline. Players who want to complete every objective on the map will be able to stretch the playtime of the DLC to about 14 hours. That's noticeably shorter than the reported time to beat the previous DLC, Wrath of Druids. On average, the main story of the Ireland-set DLC took about 8 hours, while completing every objective in Wrath of Druids took closer to 20.
AC Valhalla: What Content is in The Siege of Paris DLC
It makes some amount of sense that The Siege of Paris is shorter than Wrath of Druids. The first DLC was largely about setting up a trade empire in Ireland, while also helping to the King of Ireland manage the various rulers in his domain. The Siege of Paris is a much more focused campaign, with an emphasis on preparing to attack the city of Paris. While there are three regions to explore besides Paris, the story is driving towards the main event of sacking the famous city. The Siege of Paris saw the return of black-box infiltration missions, which take advantage of a smaller area by giving players multiple avenues to assassinate their target. This helps the DLC stand out from previous entries, but doesn't fully make up for less things to do.
Thankfully, The Siege of Paris will not be the last DLC players see for Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Ubisoft announced during E3 2021 that it would be supporting Assassin's Creed Valhalla with a second year of content. Whether this means more free content or more paid DLC remains to be seen, but the announcement also teased the long-rumored addition of Muspelheim to the game. Players who find The Siege of Paris unsatisfyingly small will at least have more Assassin's Creed Valhalla content to look forward to in the future.
