Ubisoft's Viking epic Assassin's Creed: Valhalla offers plenty of side quests and mysteries for players to explore. There's a lot to uncover in Medieval England, and Valhalla's new approach to side quest content shakes up the norm for the series. Dubbed as World Events, these particular side quests are small story vignettes that Eivor can come across in the world. These World Events can range wildly from a man pretending to be a priest to a Viking warrior unaware of the axe that is embedded in his skull.

World Events in Valhalla offer small but memorable moments of exploration that provide a nice break from the typical hack-and-slash gameplay loop, and Ubisoft uses this opportunity to show off Valhalla's weird side.

Here are some of the strangest side quests in Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

Valhalla Side Quest: The Farewell Meow

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Eivor and cat

Cat lovers should beware of this darkly humorous Assassin's Creed Valhalla side quest. In this World Event, Eivor comes across a woman crying in front of a grave. Should the player inquire about what has the woman so upset, they learn that she is mourning the death of her beloved cat, Sphinxy. However, it turns out that Sphinxy has been dead for years.

Eivor offers to comfort the grieving cat lady by bringing back Sphinxy's old toy from her house. Whenever players enter the small shack though, they find that the room is full of meowing cats and breakable crates. Sphinxy's toy is hidden behind a stack of crates, but a few slumbering cats are there as well. If the player is a bit too reckless in their search, they might end up with a few dead animals on their hands.

Valhalla Side Quest: Lady of the Lake

Don't expect to receive Excalibur in this World Event, as that's actually a different side quest. Players come across this Assassin's Creed Valhalla quest as they explore the forests of Glowecestrescire. When Eivor hears a woman singing in the distance, they look to investigate the source. What the player finds is a suspicious shack near a pond and the singing woman at the water's edge.

Dressed in all white, the woman seems to completely ignore Eivor's presence and keeps on singing. Instead, the door of her creepy looking shack opens by itself. Inside the shack is a grisly scene with corpses strung up from the rafters. The door behind Eivor is locked as the room begins to flood with poison. Once Eivor makes it out of the trap, they are ambushed by the woman in white. Assassin's Creed typically doesn't try to scare its players, but it pulls it off surprisingly well in this side quest.

Valhalla Side Quest: Madness of the Stones

Assassin's Creed Valhalla Wrath of the Druids Stone

This particular World Event is sure to be a doozy for some. As players explore the rolling hills of Cent, they are bound to come across this strange Assassin's Creed Valhalla quest. In front of a stone circle, Eivor will find a man muttering to himself about numbers and fairies. When players press the man for what is going on, he claims that the stones are being moved on their own. Believing the man mad, Eivor sets out to prove him wrong by counting the stones themselves. At first, Eivor counts 21 stones. Nothing out of the ordinary at first. But when players inform the man, he tells Eivor to check the stones again. Then the count changes to 23. Then 19.

These are just a small handful of the mysteries players will encounter in Assassin's Creed: Valhalla. World Events are a neat addition to the Assassin's Creed franchise as they provide fun bite-sized experiences to reward exploration. England is teeming with secrets to uncover, and with the addition of Valhalla's newest DLC, Wrath of the Druids, there are plenty more to uncover in Ireland as well.
