The Assassin's Creed Valhalla release date has been pushed forward a week by Ubisoft to meet the launch date of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on November 10. Release dates shifting around has been the norm for a tumultuous year for video game development, but in a rare and pleasant surprise to fans, a hotly-anticipated title is actually coming sooner than expected rather than being pushed back to a later date.

Microsoft has kick-started what's sure to be a frenetic week for gaming fans, as the company unveiled the release date of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S earlier this week. That has begun speculation that Sony will be doing the same with the PlayStation 5 shortly, and has prompted publishers and developers to begin discussing their plans for Microsoft's next-gen console as well. That's good news for the Xbox Series X, which is admittedly in an awkward position after the biggest draw it had at launch, Halo Infinite, was delayed into 2021, severely impacting consumer interest in the device upon release.

Ubisoft is doing its part to help create buzz for the newly unveiled Xbox Series X launch date, however. The company announced earlier today that the Assassin's Creed Valhalla release date has been moved forward a week, originally scheduled for November 17 and now for November 10. The move is being done to ensure the game is a launch title for Xbox Series X, but is consumer-friendly for others, too, as PC and PlayStation 4 players will also be the beneficiaries of an Assassin's Creed Valhalla release date that will get them the game a week ahead of schedule. The move has been widely praised by fans on social media.

Ubisoft also stated in a press release accompanying the announcement that Watch Dogs: Legion will be available on Xbox Series X day one also, although that game release a few weeks before the console on current-gen platforms. Ubisoft also provided an update on the Assassin's Creed Valhalla release date for PlayStation 5, stating in the press release that both it and Watch Dogs: Legion will be available on the PS5 immediately whenever the console launches.

It's a big announcement for everyone involved, and it truly feels like there are no losers here. For Microsoft, Xbox Series X has gained a launch title that, while not exclusive, is one of the more promising games left to come in 2020. For Assassin's Creed Valhalla fans worldwide, the reveal of the new Assassin's Creed Valhalla release date means they'll be playing the game a week earlier. Perhaps this announcement, and Microsoft's larger Xbox Series X release date and price reveal, will also prompt more news from Sony - and if so, that's another bonus for consumers.
