The cinematic trailer for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has just landed, confirming a 2020 Holiday release window and providing the first proper look at the game’s setting. The events take place during the Dark Ages when Vikings were violently ravaging Europe’s Northern territories, England’s shores in particular.

The reveal trailer comes shortly after the initial tease on Twitch, which ended up with the official announcement of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. For four hours straight, the viewers have been watching a famous digital artist draw an artwork only to confirm the existence of the game and the Viking setting. Despite the artwork being masterful, fans nonetheless expressed their displeasure with the slow, painfully exhausting reveal of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla. Luckily, Ubisoft decided to take quicken the pace after that, sharing the first proper trailer for the game.

The cinematic trailer offers an exciting look at the grim and savage atmosphere of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla while promising a 2020 Holiday release date. The video establishes the story’s early details, depicting the violent confrontation between the vikings and the people of the British Isles who are desperately trying to defend their land. The players will pick the role of Eivor, a bloodthirsty viking warrior and an assassin, on his quest to conquer England. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will offer a dynamic open world where players will have the opportunity to build and manage a settlement to invade the English land with frightening effectiveness. After successfully raiding fortresses and villages, players will return with riches and resources needed to expand and customize their settlements with new buildings and functional additions.

The game will also dive further into RPG mechanics, allowing players to shape their characters the way they desire the most. The story will unfold in an ever-changing manner based on every decision taken by players. The Assassin's Creed Valhalla combat system will offer a more visceral and violent approach reflecting the fighting styles of Vikings. Players will benefit from risky dual-wielding, which relies on massive swords and axes. The signature hidden blade is also back after a period of absence in the previous early historical settings, which is a welcomed return for fans.

Echoing the narratives of the most recent iterations of the franchise, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will seemingly take into consideration the rich and vast lore of Norse mythology. There’s a glimpse at the elder god Odin in the trailer with him turning into a raven, so players might expect divine interventions during their playthrough. Hopefully, the game won’t be perceived as a For Honor story mode since it has so many similar narrative beats, but knowing the franchise's often incredible tales, it's likely that won't be an issue.
