A hidden connection between Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and the original Assassin’s Creed game has been discovered. Ubisoft has had a massively successful release with its latest offering in the Assassin’s Creed series, beating Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War to the top of the sales chart in the first week of its launch. That is not to say that things have been smooth sailing for the Viking epic, though. While many have praised the game as a return to form, with the latest release in the Assassin’s Creed series having an increased focus on stealth and subtlety, others have found issue with the game’s various glitches and performance modes on the PlayStation 5.
As with many long-standing series, Assassin’s Creed has a large and dedicated fan base, many of whom have been playing the games since the series debuted in 2007. One such fan has made a previously undiscovered connection between Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and the series’ first title.
R_hexagon shared their epiphany on Reddit, detailing the link between the aforementioned two games. In each of the two Assassin’s Creed titles, gamers travel to three cities: Acre, Damascus and Jerusalem in Assassin’s Creed, and York, London and Winchester in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Each of these cities are being preyed upon by hostile forces, the Ancients and the Templars respectively. This does not seem like a great connection at first and could easily be played off as a coincidence, but R_hexagon goes on to reveal that each of the cities from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla mirror the cities from the original Assassin’s Creed, stating that “each city correlates one to one in terms of schemes being played out.” In both Assassin’s Creed and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, gamers will come across the same characters within the three cities. These include, but are not exclusive to, a mad doctor, a book burner, and an executioner. R_hexagon has created a detailed chart of this discovery, which can be seen below.
This is not the only Easter egg to be included within Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. As well as referring back to previous titles in the AC series, the developers have also included references to the real world within the game. During the modern-day progression of the game, players will come across an email written to Layla Hassan from her brother Ramy. In this email, the siblings mention the Covid pandemic.
These amazing nuggets of incredible attention to detail from Ubisoft are just some of the things that have enticed gamers to take on the Viking invasions that are experienced during Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. With the holiday season upon us, there is no doubt that the sales of this open world epic will keep going from strength to strength, and with it the potential for more in-game discoveries to be made.
