A new free Assassin's Creed Valhalla roguelike game mode called The Forgotten Saga will take players to Niflheim this summer. The latest installment in the historical sci-fi franchise casts players as Eivor, a cunning Viking warrior who leads their people on an expansion into the British Isles and beyond. Since its release in 2020 Ubisoft has continued to expand the game, with a recent AC Valhalla armory and gear loadouts update introducing notable new features for free.

As a follow-up to Assassin's Creed Odyssey and its Ancient Greece setting, Assassin's Creed Valhalla strives to recreate Norway and England as they appeared in the 870s. Players are able to customize protagonist Eivor's gender and appearance, but the game's plot always sees them assume the role of a fierce Viking warrior intent on delivering their people to new worlds. Assassin's Creed Valhalla story expansions like Wrath of the Druids, The Siege of Paris and Dawn of Ragnarok have continued Eivor's storyline while taking players to brand-new locations. Smaller free updates have also improved the experience over time by adding new content and quality-of-life improvements. April's Assassin's Creed Valhalla armory update, for example, gave players the option to display unique loot and form their own gear loadouts.

Today Ubisoft (via YouTube) announced the Forgotten Saga roguelike game mode, which will be added to Assassin's Creed Valhalla for free this summer. The brand-new adventure will see Odin journey into the shadowy realm of Niflheim and face off against Hel, the Norse goddess of death. While the game mode's overwhelming challenges will no doubt lead to Odin's death, the powerful deity can press on while gaining new upgrades and items that make him stronger over time. The Forgotten Saga will let Assassin's Creed Valhalla fans face off against powerful foes and defeat death itself when it launches for free this summer.

Alongside The Forgotten Saga, Ubisoft recently announced a standalone version of Assassin's Creed Valhalla's Discovery Tour is now available on consoles and Google Stadia. The popular mode, introduced in Assassin's Creed Origins, removes the game's combat to instead take players on a guided tour of the Viking Age and its various landmarks. Guided tours immerse players in the long-lost Viking society by shedding light on both everyday life and major historical events of the period. The educational Discovery Tour mode was previously available standalone on PC, but now Xbox, PlayStation and Google Stadia users can purchase the experience by itself too.

Since launch Assassin's Creed Valhalla has given players an enormous amount of content to fight, climb and sneak through as they experience Eivor's epic journey. As a roguelike adventure through the realm of Niflheim, The Forgotten Saga promises to deliver even more unpredictable experiences as Odin All-Father. As the latest piece of free Assassin's Creed Valhalla content, The Forgotten Saga will bring every fan to a whole new realm of adventure.
