Details of Ubisoft's next Assassin's Creed have been leaked, along with confirmation of its Norse setting. The franchise previously took place in Ancient Greece during the Peloponnesian War between Athens and the Spartans. Along with building upon the RPG elements of Assassin's Creed Origins, the game also introduced gender choices for the protagonist and Exploration Mode, which required the player to piece together various information to complete a mission, similar to how The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt handles side-quests.

Ubisoft does have an unfortunate history with leaked products, which included Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Watch Dogs: Legion. So far, there's been no official confirmation of this new Assassin's Creed besides some rumours. The publisher announced that it would take a break from releasing a new game this year, as Ubisoft wanted to support Odyssey post-launch. This game was also hinted to take place in the Viking era, which was discovered in an easter egg for The Division 2. This leak does confirm this time setting, along with some new details.

According to a leaker on Reddit, the latest Assassin's Creed will be dubbed 'Ragnarok,' with its reveal happening during a February PlayStation event (most likely Sony's State of Play). It will have a release window of fall 2020 barring any delays and will be multi-platform across older and new generation consoles, meaning it'll be on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Scarlett. Allegedly, Assassin's Creed Ragnarok will take place in both Scandinavia and England, which includes London and Plymouth.

What's interesting, if this leak is true, is its gameplay. Ragnarok will allegedly reintroduce Brotherhood's recruitment system, which could mean that players will be building another alliance. They'll also be able to travel using a boat, though supposedly there's less naval fights than Black Flag or Odyssey. In terms of story, this game's protagonist is named Jora, with the player given the option to choose between a male or female Assassin. The plot will revolve around revenge with a big part being the first civilization. Norse mythology does play a big part in Ragnarok's story, as the player will get to explore realms such as Asgard and Jottuneim, and meet Gods like Loki and Odin. This game will also conclude the present-day timeline that takes place in Origins and Odyssey.

There are a few discrepancies with this leak that could render its claims moot. For starters, this information is littered with mistakes which do raise some flags. Namely, there's a historical error with the leaker pointing out that Ragnarok takes place in circa. 800 B.C., which makes no sense if the player is exploring parts of England. Admittedly, they could've meant A.D., meaning that this could be classified as another typo. However, this new Assassin's Creed looks to be promising if the rumor is true. While the leaker doesn't go into detail over the gameplay enhancements that Ragnarok will receive, bringing back the Brotherhood recruitment system could be viewed as a big positive in the eyes of fans. Despite the revenge plot sounding quite streamlined, visiting Norse realms similar to those featured in God of War would make for a pleasant venture.
