The Assassin's Creed series has taken gamers to many historical sights all over the world and brought them to life with some time travel too. From Ancient Egypt to 18th century America, the games have offered countless opportunities to bring back historical figures and show how the world's most famous cities once looked across human history.

In Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, fans were taken to Ancient Greece (431 BCE), and as well as being part of the Peloponnesian War, they were also able to explore the many wonderful sights of Greece without leaving their chairs. But among the real and fictional places players could visit, which are the best?

Korfu Island

As part of the free content in December 2021's update, players were able to experience a brand new story that crossed over to the most recent Assassin's Creed title, Valhalla, which explored the Viking invasion of Britain. As well as a brand new adventure for Kassandra or Alexios, and goodies themed on the latest game, fans were also given a new location to explore.

Korfu Island (now spelled with a C instead of a K) is one of the Greek Islands from the Ionian Seas and tourists can see other nearby islands from the highest points. And this highlight was brought into the game, as not only is it beautifully recreated, but players can parkour up these high peaks and experience the sights in the game and the collection of islands surrounding them.

The Underworld

After the game launched, Ubisoft released the downloadable content The Fate of Atlantis, a story that takes gamers to the settings and locales of Greek Mythology. This was split into three episodes and the second one, Torment of Hades, took players to the Greek Underworld.

The crumbling and desert-like setting may not be the prettiest nor the most pleasant place to visit, but it is one of the darker and more foreboding places in the game. Furthermore, the fight against Cerberus to get in creates tension and a mood that only Greece's ancient hell can bring.

Atlantis

Assassins Creed Odyssey Fate of Atlantis

A lot of people are familiar with the legendary story of Atlantis, which sank into the ocean and was never to be seen again. Many have seen movies about the Lost City of Atlantis and there are probably very few people who have never heard of the tale or seen some form of it on the screen.

Not many can say they have walked within the city, however, but Odyssey delivered that in the third DLC episode, Judgement of Atlantis. Players have never seen an Atlantis like this before, with its beautiful aqua rivers, towering white buildings, green shrubbery, and golden statues. It should be a highlight on anyone's list if they missed out on the story, as it surely delivers an experience unlike any other.

Fields Of Elysium

While the Underworld may be the more familiar afterlife when it comes to Greek mythology, it's not the only place people can go after death. Elysium, or in this game's case, Fields of Elysium, is a place where only those chosen by the gods and great heroes are sent to rest.

Players can enter this realm in the first episode of The Fate for Atlantis DLC and it is easily one of the most gorgeous and awe-inspiring locations across the entire game. This certainly plays in contrast to the depiction of the Underworld, where life just blooms and blossoms across the entire area. Whether you're seeing it from the ground or high up, there's no escaping the beautiful sights around you.

Valley Of Olympia

History and sports buffs alike will undoubtedly try to visit this beloved locale. Not also was it the home of the Sanctuary of Olympia and the birthplace of the Olympic games that many see in documentaries and on television, it also had the Temple of Zeus, which was home to the Athenian Phidias' statues of the Greek God of Thunder.

Surrounded by lush green hills, the location is filled with many gorgeous temples and other historic landmarks that anyone will surely want to explore. Climbed up to the top of the Temple of Zeus and look at the landscape in the surrounding area. This will offer players a one-of-a-kind experience indeed.

Akropolis Of Athens

While today, it is visited by tourists and locals alike for the remains of the Parthenon temple that still stands, the citadel was once home to many sanctuaries and temples dedicated to the gods. But as these archeological sites are the only things that have remained, it's hard for people to imagine what it could have been outside of the best movies based on Greek mythology.

Fortunately, it was resurrected, thanks to the dedicated artists and designers at Ubisoft who were able to turn it into one of the most breathtaking and detailed locations players can visit. As well as the restored life and color that is given to the Parthenon, it also features a colossal bronze statue of the goddess of wisdom, Athena. With this mixture of the familiar and sights that only citizens at the time could witness, it's worth the journey to reach this citadel.

Lesbos

The third-largest island of Greece, Lesbos is home to the Petrified Forest, beach villages made up of churches and temples, and the Kalloni Salt Pans. Even though it has plenty for tourists to see and do, the game's version takes it to the next level.

Outside of the Town of Erosos, players are allowed to fight one of the greatest mythological creatures of all time: Medusa. The eerie and sinister Petrified Temple certainly lives up to its name and is, perhaps, not only one of the most beautiful places in the game, but one of the most unique. It's a fitting home for Medusa and it suits her deadly boss encounter well.

Lalaia

Lalaia in Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Hidden in a valley within Phokis, Laila is a beautiful village where everything is surrounded by nature. Whether it's the trees in the distance, the plants covering the buildings or the crows calling in the background, it's certainly one of the more calm places players can visit.

And after slaying soldiers and taking down difficult legendary Assassin's Creed beasts, it's the perfect place to unwind and relax among the NPCs. It can also be seen from one of the peaks that surround it, where the colors of the petals cover the area in gorgeous floral speckles.

Mykonos

Mykonos with a view of the sea in Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Mykonos today certainly doesn't resemble its past appearance, as it is recreated in Odyssey. It is now Mykonos Town and made up of whitewashed buildings, windmills from the 16th century and an array of restaurants, shops, and bars for locals and visitors alike.

But it was once Mykonos City and a stunning place in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey. Surrounded by clear, blue waters, the bustling city feels just as alive then as it does today. The Temple of Artemis, however, is the cherry on the cake, as it stands tall among the rest of the city and is easily viewed from far away, whether you are on land or sea.

Mount Taygetos

Alexios atop a mountain in Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Hikers, today, may enjoy the sights that surround them when they reach one of the peaks near Mount Taygetos, but they will surely have a large obstacle ahead of them. However, players can reach the top of the mountain and see the sights of Ancient Greece around them.

The reward from this journey is rich as the peak of the mountain slowly gets covered in snow the higher one climbs, giving fans a place where the scenery truly transforms as you progress. Furthermore, there is a sword at the top, and interacting with it will grant the player a new engraving to enhance their combat skills in the game.
