Ubisoft has revealed the very first trailer for Assassin's Creed Mirage during the recent Ubisoft Forward 2022 event. The next installment in the long-running historical sci-fi series will cast players as the Assassin Basim during his youth in Baghdad. An Assassin's Creed game about Basim has been rumored throughout the year, and now the game's first trailer pulls back the hood on this exciting next chapter.

Basim Ibn Ishaq is a character first introduced as an ally and antagonist in Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Hailing from the Abbasid Caliphate, Basim journeys to Norway and gifts protagonist Eivor with the franchise's iconic Hidden Blade. Later in the game Basim is revealed to be a reincarnation of the Norse god of mischief Loki, which leads him to attack Odin's reincarnation Eivor to settle a mythic feud. Despite being an antagonist in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Basim's motivations are treated sympathetically and he is set up to be a part of the series' narrative moving forward. Now Assassin's Creed Mirage will feature Basim as the main character, and the game's reveal trailer suggests he will be a more than capable protagonist.

Ubisoft Forward 2022 premiered the very first trailer for Assassin's Creed Mirage, which has subsequently been posted to YouTube by Ubisoft. The exciting reveal trailer teases Basim's introduction into the Assassin Brotherhood, with the protagonist living as a simple thief before an Assassin saves him from the law. Iconic aspects of the original Assassin's Creed titles, like the ceremonial removal of the ring finger and the Memory Corridor assassination conversations, are shown to make a grand return. Crafty combat moves are also teased, with Basim dropping a poison trap during a chase and using a large guard as a human shield. The Assassin's Creed Mirage trailer ends with a monstrous figure confronting Basim within the Memory Corridor, which may set up Loki's influence on the young Assassin's mind.

Assassin's Creed Mirage Goes Back To The Series' Roots

The game's new trailer seems to confirm previous Assassin's Creed Mirage rumors, which leaked some details about the game's setting and premise ahead of Ubisoft Forward. These rumors correctly revealed that the game would follow Basim's origins in Baghdad, and they also claimed that the title's gameplay will return to the roots of the franchise's earliest entries. Assassin's Creed Mirage will reportedly emphasize social stealth and rooftop freerunning, with RPG elements stripped away to create a more streamlined experience.

Based on its reveal trailer, Assassin's Creed Mirage will be a true return to form for the long-running Ubisoft franchise. Basim's introduction into the Assassin Brotherhood looks to provide a unique new narrative, and gameplay elements like stealth and rooftop chases are making a grand return. By letting players explore the since-destroyed city of ancient Baghdad, Assassin's Creed Mirage will be a welcome return to the franchise's roots.
