While fans worry over Assassin's Creed Infinity's reported live-service nature, a new rumor alleges Ubisoft will continue to develop regular, open-world AC titles alongside Infinity. A Bloomberg report from earlier this summer claimed AC Infinity would eventually launch in the form of an evolving online platform. Ubisoft responded to the Infinity news by confirming that an ambitious new project is in development with its Montréal and Québec studios at the helm; however, the publisher stopped short of corroborating anything concrete about the planned content model.

Many an Assassin's Creed fan remains skeptical, fearing the supposed details regarding Infinity's status as a live-service platform will pull the series even further away from its roots. But, in truth, Ubisoft has been slowly preparing players for such a change for several years now, given Odyssey's service-like content releases. AC Valhalla is taking things a step further with seasonal events and a second year of post-launch support, an unprecedented move for the franchise. New rumors about Assassin's Creed Infinity suggest the project won't detract from regular releases across the brand, though.

Redditor Smooth-Earth2875 recently shared allegedly leaked information about AC Infinity on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit. One of the page's mods, Therabbidscot, claims to have seen evidence from the leaker that indicates the rumors may have "some merit." Reportedly, Infinity will take inspiration from AC Unity's Helix Rift actives and may also feature remade events from previous installments. Most interesting is the leaker's statement that open-world AC titles will continue to be produced "at the same time as Infinity." If true, the project from Montréal and Québec may not serve as Assassin's Creed be-all and end-all that franchise faithful fear.

Assassins Creed Infinity Playable Character

As is always the case, fans should take all of the above with a grain of salt, regardless of how legitimate some pieces of information may sound. It's plausible, though, that Ubisoft would want to keep production on regular Assassin's Creed games going. These endeavors, regardless of their faults, remain the publisher's brand and butter. For example, AC Valhalla's record-breaking sales made the brand more profitable than its been since the AC III days.

And there's plenty more AC Valhalla-related goodness on the horizon, too. Yesterday, October 19, Ubisoft unleashed Discovery Tour: Viking Age as a free update for existing owners and as a standalone experience. A second year of post-release content is also in development, yet the public remains in the dark on what that entails.
