The next game in the Assassin’s Creed series will be revealed during an upcoming special Ubisoft event, as announced by the company during the series' 15th-anniversary livestream. The June 14 stream offered viewers a host of exciting new announcements for the series, including a free weekend of play for Assassin's Creed Origins.
The last mainline Assassin's Creed game was Valhalla, released in 2020, and while the game has received a myriad of content updates since launch, fans have been eagerly awaiting news on future games in the series. Last year, a report revealed that Ubisoft is working on a live-service title in the franchise, which the company then confirmed in a press release. According to the developer, the game will define the future of Assassin's Creed with an ever-evolving and growing landscape, and leaks have suggested it could have multiple historical settings. While confirmed to be a working title, the upcoming release is currently known as Assassin's Creed Infinity.
During Ubisoft's Assassin’s Creed 15th Anniversary Celebration livestream, the company announced that the next game in the long-running series will be revealed via a special event that is scheduled for September. Ubisoft didn’t specifically mention a new Assassin’s Creed instalment, though, instead describing the event as “unveiling the future of Assassin’s Creed,” which might suggest that this will be the official reveal of the live-service Assassin's Creed Infinity. No set date for the event has yet been revealed, but fans can look forward to September for more details.
Although Ubisoft’s announcement might be lacking specific details regarding the next Assassin’s Creed game, there is still lots of content for franchise fans to both enjoy now, and have to look forward to throughout 2022. Xbox Game Pass recently added Assassin’s Creed Origins to its ever-changing roster, and today's livestream event also confirmed new content for Assassin's Creed Valhalla, as well the standalone release of its ever-popular and educational Discovery Tour mode.
While the idea of announcing an announcement might sound an odd choice, it probably means that Ubisoft is not quite ready to reveal the next step in the future of the Assassin’s Creed series. However, the summer period is traditionally the hottest time of the year for companies to share their plans, and in that regard, offering the community at least an understanding of when to expect actual news is justified. While it’ll take three more months for the company to reveal more, the event suggests that it could be worth the wait for Assassin’s Creed fans.
