Ash vs. Evil Dead Season 3 May Not Premiere Until 2018

It looks like fans may have to wait longer than expected for Ash vs Evil Dead to return. For over two decades, Sam Raimi's Evil Dead trilogy - The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, and Army of Darkness - stood tall as one of the most beloved series of films in horror history. It was also one of the rare popular horror franchises not to get driven into the ground by endless sequels. A remake was released in 2013, but it was unconnected to the original continuity, save for a post-credits scene where Bruce Campbell popped up to say "groovy".

In 2015 though, fans were pleasantly surprised to finally receive another proper entry into the original Evil Dead series, this time in the form of Starz's Ash vs Evil Dead TV show. Raimi returned to produce - as well as direct the pilot - with Campbell strapping back on Ash's trademark socket-mounted chainsaw and going to down on a new wave of Deadites. Season 1 was quite well-received by most fans, as was last year's season 2. Both runs debuted in October of their respective years, leading most to assume that AVED's upcoming season 3 would be no different.

Contrary to those expectations, Starz still has yet to announce a fall 2017 premiere date for Ash vs Evil Dead season 3, long past the point where prior premiere dates had been confirmed. Naturally, this has begun to worry fans, who wonder what this radio silence might mean for the series' future. In a recent interview with Red Carpet Crash, star Campbell was asked about season 3's status, and sadly, it didn't really clear much up.

"When you hear the date, let me know. Starz has said a couple different things, about possibly shifting the premiere date to try and get a cleaner slot within the year. So we don’t know. It’ll either be Fall or first quarter 2018… is my guess.”

Season 3 reportedly completed production back in June, so there was never any fear of it not airing. Nevertheless, the lack of announcement did cause some concern. Aside from teasing tweets, there hasn't been much word on the new episodes.

The big question now becomes just how long Starz plans to wait before unleashing Ash vs Evil Dead season 3 upon the world. Fans would obviously still prefer a fall release, but the lack of marketing makes that impossible. 2018 certainly seems more likely of a candidate for the premiere, but hopefully a proper date will be set soon.
