The Starz marking machine has stared running at its full operational capacity for its upcoming small screen continuation of the Evil Dead franchise, Ash vs. Evil Dead. Now, following the release of additional posters and trailers for the TV show, the network has released another preview for the comedy/horror cable television series.

To be exact, Starz has unveiled a new behind-the-scenes look at Ash vs. Evil Dead, featuring interviews with the likes of star Bruce Campbell and a few of the show’s executive producers, including showrunner Craig Digregorio (Workaholics). You can watch that featurette (which includes some NSFW violence) for the show, above.

In case you’ve missed the previous reports, Ash vs. Evil Dead is a new series picking up with Ash Williams (Campbell) in real-time following the events of 1992's Army of Darkness, as he attempts to avoid all responsibility… but, unfortunately, the Evil Dead forces have different plans and set out to start an apocalypse of Deadites on Earth. Now, the only thing standing between them and the human race is the one man that wants nothing to do with the matter.

In addition to Campbell, the series also stars Jill Marie Jones (Girlfriends), Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess, Spartacus), and Ray Santiago (In Time), with a pilot episode that was written and directed by original Evil Dead mastermind (and longtime Campbell/Lawless collaborator), Sam Raimi.

Ash vs. Evil Dead preview with Bruce Campbell

The most exciting thing about the new Ash vs. Evil Dead video is just the amount of fun the cast and crew are clearly having. There’s no way a show like this is going to work if the creative team isn’t interested in having a good time while making it. The last thing anyone wants is a “serious” Evil Dead; this is a show that needs to be the most over-the-top thing to ever go over-the-top, and it seems like that’s what we’re going to be getting.

It’s also nice to see all the ways in which the crew are utilizing new and old school filmmaking techniques to pull of the series. Many of the creatures that have wowed audiences in the Ash vs. Evil Dead trailers are indeed practical, and they look wonderful. In some ways, it’s difficult to say if this is the Evil Dead show fans have dreamed of, because it’s hard to dream this wildly. Fortunately, Raimi and Bruce Campbell did, and come this October, that crazy dream is going to become a reality.
