Supergirl has a number of interesting and dynamic relationships throughout the show. While some of them are truly memorable and will stand the test of time, others are clearly flawed and perhaps shouldn't even be called a friendship.

It may be the fault of the characters or the situations they have been put in, but the high stakes of their everyday lives make some of these friendships much more fragile. Here are 5 of the best friendships in the show and 5 of the absolute worst.

Worst: Kara And Lena

It's clear by now that Kara and Lena's relationship is deeply broken. It's full of distrust, hatred, and Lena has even flirted with villainy in the past. While she tries to refrain from embracing the family name, their friendship will likely never recover.

They were once almost like sisters, but Kara showcased that she couldn't really trust Lena, by hiding her identity from her. This has hurt Lena ever since and she'll do everything in her power to bring Kara down, although not at the risk of the world.

Best: Kara And Alex

They are both family and best friends, Alex and Kara are completely inseparable. They've had their differences like any sister would with her sibling, but they always come out the other side stronger and closer than ever before.

Alex has supported Kara in her life as Supergirl and Kara has completely embraced the woman that Alex has become. They are much better off with one another and it's the sign of true friendship that they would sacrifice themselves for the other.

Worst: Lena And Eve

Lena is clearly on a roll with her difficult friendships, although this time it was Eve who became the problem and continued to sew the seeds of distrust within the Luthor. Eve was never really Lena's friend and was instead acting on behalf of Leviathan.

Even when they became close there was always a part of Eve that wasn't fully committed to the friendship. When Lena converted her to become some kind of robotic woman, this friendship was also false and simply contrived through mechanics.

Best: Jimmy and Winn

Jimmy and Winn have each other's back and was one of the most surprising bromances to come from the show. They essentially bonded over their mutual love interest, Kara, but both have since moved on to other people.

However, Winn and Jimmy have become crime-fighting buddies, with Winn helping him and acting like the guy in the chair, while Jimmy goes out and fights crime as the Guardian. It's actually a great fit and one that showcases the strength of their bond.

Worst: Jimmy and Clark

Jimmy and Clark, on the other hand, are supposed to be best friends. However, the show has rarely shown them together and indeed it doesn't seem like they are actually that close at all, despite everything we've been told about them.

We would assume that Clark would want Jimmy involved in his life more, perhaps even in relation to their child. Instead, Clark and Lois moved off to Argo City and James set up his own journalistic business. They don't appear to be in contact very often.

Best: Kara and Cat

Kara and Cat also don't talk often, but when Miss Grant is around she's a rock in Kara's life. Despite always knowing that Kara was always Supergirl, Cat Grant supported her, hid the secret and was clearly an admirer of the girl of steel.

She pushed Kara to be the best journalist that she could be and even supported her same vision as her role in the White House. The two share a lot of values and both would love to see the other succeed in whatever field they choose, despite the rocky start that they had.

Worst: Samantha And Alex

One of the most recent stories that were partially inspired by the comics was the addition of Reign to Supergirl's rogues' gallery. Underneath the mask was Samantha, who soon realized she had a double life and hid it from her closest friends.

She instead was captured by Lena who then experimented on her in various ways and her relationship with Alex especially was damaged further. Despite Alex's eventual support, at the end of all this Samantha still moved away from one of her supposed best friends.

Best: J'onn And The Danvers

The Martian Manhunter was a great surprise for fans of the comics when he was first revealed in the show. He has been a constant support to the Danvers sisters and has always helped Alex at the DEO and Kara as Supergirl.

He is currently a father figure to both of them and a constant friend, who will continue to help them in their every decision. They have a really moving relationship and one that we hope will continue to develop.

Worst: Brainy And The Team

Brainy will always have a difficult relationship with those he works with due to his social differences. Brainy is an alien with very different social ques and within him lies the DNA of Brainiac himself.

His friendship is, therefore, heading towards disaster and while he always means well, he can sometimes be very difficult to get through to or indeed sometimes misreads the situations that he is in.

Best: Barry and Kara

Although Barry Allen is not a regular on the show, he and Kara are absolutely super friends. It's clear from the fantastic musical episode that the duo delivered, that these heroes clearly care a lot for one another.

They are both just as optimistic and hopeful and we have seen some really iconic imagery from the two, including their famous race against one another. It's a genuinely pure friendship that's fuelled by both of their desires to just do good in the world.
