In order to be freer of its Batman problem, the Arrowverse needs to introduce Robin in the near future. The Dark Knight has been a tricky character in the Arrowverse even before Batwoman premiered in 2019. While Warner Bros. has gotten a lot looser with its DC restrictions for the small screen, there are still a handful of characters who are strictly forbidden from appearing on TV. While almost all of the Justice League members have appeared on DC TV in one way or another, Batman continues to be a conundrum for almost every DC TV series. With the current exception of Titans and how Bruce Wayne was (partially) introduced in Batwoman season 1, Batman is still not allowed to properly show up on the small screen.

Currently, Warren Christie is the face of Arrowverse’s Batman as Hush got a brand new look in the Batwoman season 1 finale. While Gotham City’s real playboy billionaire is still MIA, Hush will be posing as Bruce in the upcoming season. But at some point, the Arrowverse needs to find a way to wrap up this problem as Batman can’t just be missing forever in this depiction of the DC Universe. Superman & Lois is the next spinoff to premiere on The CW, as Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman officially becomes a permanent Arrowverse resident. The spinoff will introduce not one but two potential new heroes to the Arrowverse with Jonathan and Jordan Kent, who may or may not have their father’s Kryptonian abilities.

A way for the Arrowverse to be less bothered by its Batman problem is by introducing Robin - a specific one. While many have carried that Boy Wonder mantle, Damian Wayne, Bruce’s biological son, has been carrying that title for several years in DC. With the introduction of Jon through Superman & Lois, that is one half of DC’s infamous Super-Sons dynamic that has been a thing in the comics for quite some time. Batwoman has even confirmed since the first season that at least one Robin exists in the Arrowverse. By introducing Damian as Robin, it would add something for Jon and Jordan down the line as they become bigger players in the franchise.

When (or if) either of them starts getting into the superhero business, it would add something to their characters by having an opposite hero like Damian to play off with. But by bringing in Damian, it would also help to establish what Batman’s timeline looks like in this universe. It could solve mysteries such as how many Robins Batman has had during his crusade before having Damian. It could also be through Damian that viewers find out where in the world Bruce is at and why he hasn’t returned to Gotham City.

Through Damian, the Arrowverse can be free of its Batman problem by letting another member of the Bat-Family be present alongside Ryan Wilder who will become the new Batwoman. It’s a double win for the franchise as it gives The CW a Robin without conflicting with Titans that has both Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. But in addition to that, it can be a setup for Superman & Lois to do the Super-Sons dynamic down the line as Jon and/or Jordan potentially become the Arrowverse’s Superboy(s). Only time will tell what the Arrowverse will do with its Batman presence in 2021 and beyond, but hopefully, it will, at some point, include Damian Wayne’s Robin.
