There's one character in the Arrowverse worthy enough to wield Thor's magical hammer Mjolnir, according to Zack Stentz, a screenwriter who has worked on both 2011's Thor and The CW's ongoing The Flash series. Formed from the heart of a dying star, Mjolnir is famously enchanted with an inscription that reads, "Whosoever holds this hammer, if they be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor." This concept is often used for humor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the Avengers taking turns to try to lift it in one memorable Avengers: Age of Ultron scene.
In Avengers: Endgame, Captain America successfully wields Mjolnir, in one of the movie's biggest moments. It's never clearly defined what actually constitutes being "worthy" enough to lift the hammer, but it generally involves a strong sense of courage, heroism, will, and, most importantly, selflessness. There are a plethora of heroes who have exhibited these qualities throughout the various series that make up the Arrowverse, but it seems one character stands out, and it may not be the one viewers expect.
According to Stentz, one Arrowverse character truly worthy is Joe West, the Central City cop who took in Barry Allen after his mother was killed and his father was framed for her murder. This revelation came via Twitter, where comic book writer David Atchison first proposed the idea of Joe, who is played by Jesse L. Martin, being worthy to lift the mythical weapon. Later that same day, Stentz responded, confirming that since he's written for both properties, he had the authority to declare the statement to be "canonically accurate." It makes sense that West could at least be in contention for worthiness. He sacrificed a lot to prevent Barry from going into the foster care system, served as his surrogate father - and later father-in-law - and has stood by Allen on his path to heroism. Still, despite his obvious love for Barry, Joe's own sense of morals comes first. At the end of The Flash season 8's "Armageddon" storyline, West threatens he'll disown Barry if he chooses to kill Reverse-Flash, demonstrating his unfaltering righteousness. Considering West exists in a world filled to the brim with metahumans and aliens with godlike powers, the fact that a mere human like West is deemed worthy is proof that Atchison and Stentz hold the character in very high regard.
Obviously, this exchange was all said in jest and Joe West isn't officially worthy in either universe's canon. But if this fun hypothetical ever somehow came to be, West would surprisingly not be the first DC character to wield the iconic Marvel weapon. West was an original creation for TV, but comic book readers know that in the past Mjolnir has been hoisted by the likes of Wonder Woman and Superman in various crossover events. West is certainly in good company.
Whether he is actually worthy or not, it's nice to see creators have as much of a passion for and a vested interest in the characters they work on as the audience following them. This exchange makes it clear that Joe West is as much a creator-favorite as he is a fan-favorite. In the incredibly unlikely event Mjolnir somehow makes an appearance in the Arrowverse, at least it's been established one character from The Flash will be able to wield the awesome weapon.
