John Diggle's Arrowverse spinoff series Justice U is reportedly still in development at The CW, despite a lack of updates in several months. Since Arrow's premiere in 2012, The CW has become known for its DC TV shows that together form the Arrowverse from executive producer Greg Berlanti. Following Arrow's success, The CW launched a new spinoff every year with shows like The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, and more. One of Arrow's main players that has played an overall role throughout the many Arrowverse shows is David Ramsey's John Diggle, a.k.a. Spartan, who has become a fan favorite since his introduction in 2012.

After starring in Arrow for 8 seasons, Diggle has been a guest player on some of the other Arrowverse shows in various capacities. Ramsey has also been working behind the scenes as a director while leaving the door open for his character to guest star whenever there is a story for him. However, in 2021, The CW put a Diggle spinoff into development, titled Justice U, with Ramsey eyed to reprise the role as part of a new ensemble. Justice U would follow Diggle building a new team of superheroes with 5 young metahumans being sent to a prestigious university, where he would mentor them.

However, after the initial announcement, things have been quiet on the Justice U front, until now. In the recent edition of TVLine's Inside Line, a fan inquired if there were any updates about the Arrowverse spinoff or if it has been scrapped. TVLine revealed that despite the lack of news, they're hearing that Justice U is still in active development over at The CW. No further details were revealed about Justice U's progress, as this marks the first update for the project in 2022.

Justice U was initially announced to be written and executive produced by Superman & Lois' Michael Narducci, with Ramsey directing the pilot. Zoanne Clack (Grey's Anatomy) would also be attached as executive producer on Justice U, alongside Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, David Madden, and Geoff Johns. Justice U would have marked one of several attempted Arrowverse/DCTV shows in the last two years, joining Green Arrow & The Canaries, Wonder Girl, and Painkiller, which didn't move forward. The only new DC TV show to move forward after Superman & Lois is Gotham Knights, which will premiere during midseason 2023.

While Justice U is reportedly still in development, it doesn't guarantee the Arrowverse spinoff will move forward as "development" does not equal a pilot or straight-to-series order. Many pilots tend to sometimes not move beyond development stages and eventually get quietly scrapped. After having canceled a total of 9 shows this year, The CW is currently undergoing a lot of changes behind-the-scenes, including WarnerMedia and Paramount trying to sell the network after 16 years. Only time will tell if Justice U will ever move forward and give Diggle a regular Arrowverse show to be on again.
