The Arroverse heroes are engaged in a fight with the version of Superman wearing his black suit in a brand new photo from the set of the "Elseworlds" crossover event. While DC's Legends of Tomorrow isn't partaking in this year's crossoverArrowThe Flash, and Supergirl are once again all coming together for their annual TV special, scheduled to air in December. The overall narrative will be told in three parts - each night corresponding to one of the involved shows.

Not much is known regarding specific plot details for "Elseworlds" as despite what the subtitle implies, Arrow producer Marc Guggenheim confirmed that events of the upcoming crossover will fit in the current continuity. So far, there have only been a couple of promo posters for the TV special including one that highlights the persona swap between Oliver Queen/Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) and Barry Allen/Flash (Grant Gustin). But aside from the regular players involved in the yearly event, Tyler Hoechlin's Clark Kent aka Superman will also play a major role as hinted by the imminent introduction of Elizabeth Tulloch's Lois Lane, and maybe even a sequence set at DCTV's version of the Kent family farm.

Courtesy of Canadagraphs is a brand new photo from the set of "Elseworlds" featuring key characters from the special such as Green Arrow, Supergirl (Melissa Benoist), Flash and both classic and dark versions of Hoechlin's Superman. What makes the photo more interesting is the fact that the Scarlet Speedster is caught in a headlock by evil Superman while the other heroes are seemingly attempting to save Barry. Check out the image below:

The scenario is reminiscent of the World's Finest Heroes' face-off against a newly resurrected Superman in Justice League. And while Henry Cavill wasn't able to don the black suit on the big screen, it's no secret that director Zack Snyder was planning to have him sport the suit as part of the bigger story arc he was telling that was supposed to eventually introduce Darkseid after Steppenwolf. A deleted scene from the film still featured the dark variant of his costume, but Clark never really got around to trying it on.

Aside from the Justice League parallels, this set photo poses more questions for the upcoming Arrowverse crossover. While this confirms that black suited Superman will play some sort of a villain in the special, it remains to be seen where he came from, especially since it looks like he and the original Man of Steel will be co-existing in the narrative. It's unclear who will be the big bad in "Elseworlds," with LaMonica Garrett's The Monitor and Jeremy Davies' Dr. John Deegan being potential villains. It's curious if the evil iteration of Superman has anything to do with any of them.

Based on what fans have found out thanks to set photos and official details for Arrowverse's "Elseworlds," this year's crossover event will be packed with many moving pieces. Aside from black suited Superman, two other integral plot points are the persona switch between the Green Arrow and Flash and the eventual introduction of Ruby Rose's Kate Kane aka Batwoman
