Supergirl leader Martian Manhunter will not be involved in 'Crisis on Earth-X'. The November crossover between Arrowverse shows has become a beloved tradition for fans of the various DC series. Each year has outdone the previous in grand fashion, becoming bigger and more intense than the previous fall crossover. From Arrow and The Flash fighting each other and the Legends of Tomorrow backdoor pilot introducing Vandal Savage to last year's massive three-episode fight against The Dominators - with the 100th episode of Arrow smack in the middle - every year seems to pose the question of how the next year will possibly top it.
This year, the plan is to bring all four shows together for 'Crisis on Earth-X', in which various doppelgangers from an Earth where the Nazi's rule will be arriving. With evil versions of Supergirl, The Green Arrow, and The Flash all showing up to ruin Barry and Iris' wedding, there's sure to be plenty of excitement this year, including a non-evil version of Captain Cold known as Citizen Cold, and a scene featuring a full 20 superheroes in one place. However, with four shows combining to tell one story, it's not possible to include everyone.
And now at least one person who will not be involved has been revealed. Actor David Harewood recently told CBR that Martian Manhunter - aka J’onn J’onzz - will not be a part of the crossover this year.
While J’onzz may well be missed by the fans, it makes sense that his character will not be involved. Supergirl is set on a different parallel world from the rest of the Arrowverse shows, so any time there is a crossover it involves characters traveling through the multiverse to get where they are going. Typically, no more people than is necessary make the trip. During last season's big crossover event, only one scene from Supergirl was a part of the same story as the other three shows, and Kara was the only character involved. Meanwhile, J'onzz has to run the DEO and take care of his father, who only recently came to Earth. He's a busy man who probably does not have the time to travel to Earth-1 unless he absolutely has to.
That being said, it also sounds like he himself is not involved, which is a bit of a shame because that probably means we won't see his Earth-X counterpart. Though since J'onzz generally shapeshifts himself to look like Hank Henshaw, it is not as though audiences don't know his evil twin already. As for which other characters from the various series will and won't be involved - and which ones who do show up will be evil instead of good - that largely remains to be seen.
The Arrowverse shows all air on The CW, with Supergirl on Monday, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow on Tuesday, and Arrow on Thursday. The CW’s special ‘Crisis On Earth-X’ event will air on Monday, November 27 and Tuesday, November 28.
