Whenever it's time for the Arrowverse to bring all the shows together for another massive crossover, the event should be based on the Injustice story. The CW's annual crossovers for their DC TV shows have been one of the most beloved aspects of the franchise for years. As the Arrowverse kept adding more spinoffs, the crossovers got bigger for every season. Over the years they have adapted DC storylines like Invasion, introduced Earth-X, explored the Elseworlds, and even done a musical. But the biggest one of them all was when the Arrowverse, after years of building up to it, adapted the infamous Crisis on Infinite Earths, based on Marv Wolfman and George Pérez's legendary book from the '80s.

The 5-hour Arrowverse saga put The CW heroes up against their biggest threat yet with the Anti-Monitor. Crisis also helped extended the franchise's longevity by not only rebooting the Multiverse but creating Earth-Prime bringing all of the shows together in the same world. The crossover also honored past, present, and future DC TV shows and films from Warner Bros. that are part of the same Arrowverse Multiverse. Even the DCEU got a big moment when Ezra Miller and Grant Gustin's respective Flash got to share the screen together, opening a door for films and TV shows to crossover in the future. Due to the global pandemic, crossovers are put on hold until everyone has been vaccinated.

Originally, a crossover was going to happen between Superman & Lois and Batwoman, with other Arrowverse characters eyed to pop up. But that got scrapped in order to avoid the health risks. However, that doesn't mean the Arrowverse can't start setting up the next big concept across the shows for when it does become safe again to do a massive multi-show production. While there are many big DC story arcs that they can pull from, Injustice would be the next great adaptation for the Arrowverse.

The Arrowverse Needs Another Crisis

While there have been several Arrowverse crossovers, Crisis on Infinite Earths was on a whole other level for The CW. Aside from the incredibly ambitious production they had to put together, the story was more than seeing all of the heroes together or having a ton of big DC cameos. For the Arrowverse, Crisis marked the end of an era after teasing this storyline being in the franchise's future since 2014. The event was partially a swan song for Arrow that was coming to an end that season with Oliver Queen getting one last adventure. Stephen Amell's Green Arrow also got the biggest heroic sacrifice of all time as he, literally, recreated the Multiverse and rebooted the continuity for the other shows. The final part of the crossover even sees the world along with the heroes honoring Oliver as a universal savior. Even now the Arrowverse is still experiencing the aftermath of the Crisis because it gave the shows a chance to retool or reimagine any stories and characters.

Crisis on Infinite Earths has for the longest time been one of DC Comics' most remembered storylines because it changed everything for the comic publisher. That's also what happened when it was adapted for the Arrowverse. Even though the heroes don't know that the Multiverse exists again, that is a plot point that will have to be addressed at some point. It would be the audience to suspend their disbelief that Earth-Prime will never learn about there being infinite earths again. Since Stargirl season 2 will have John Wesley Shipp's Jay Garrick be retroactively established as that world's Golden Age Flash, things are already brewing. A Crisis-like story is needed again to really demonstrate the kind of threats that exist out there. Doing another arc where the Multiverse is at risk of being destroyed would just be repetitive. But that doesn't mean they can't do a storyline where two Earths are clashing, which is how Injustice comes in.

Superman & Lois Has Already Set Up Injustice

While the Injustice concept hasn't emerged on all the shows, Superman & Lois are alluding to that alternative Earth existing. The Stranger, who ended up being revealed as Captain Lex Luthor, is determined to prove to the world that the Man of Steel is a curse in disguise. Lex has explained that in some way, his Superman destroyed the world he comes from. This new Lex is also even depending on General Sam Lane to believe him that the Last Son of Krypton is Earth's biggest threat. A flashback to Lex's world showed why he hates Superman as much as he does. In that universe, Tyler Hoehlin is sporting a black Superman costume (the one he wore in Elseworlds) and can be seen executing soldiers, including General Lane.

Given that he's still operating as Superman, it hints that Clark has gone down a similar path like the Injustice iteration where he formed a new world order after Lois's horrible death that The Joker orchestrated. Once that Superman murdered The Joker, it was the beginning of Clark's new view on the world as he believed more could be done to stop evil criminals. That would explain a lot about Lex's motivations and why he knows so much about Earth-Prime's Superman. The fact that he's turning to this world's General Lane, after losing the one he knew, confirms that this Lex is trying to plead with the military to protect their planet.

Why Injustice Would Be Perfect

Evil superman Crisis on infinite earths

The fascinating element with Injustice is how complex the overall story actually is because it's not entirely black and white. Heroes are pit against each other, but it's a battle of ideology. Crisis on Infinite Earths, while massive, was very straight-forward in that it focused on a super-villain that wanted to destroy every Earth in the whole Multiverse. Injustice, however, is a trickier challenge that the characters are forced to deal with. Despite the arc having a Superman that is willing to brutally execute someone, it's Clark's way to try and guarantee that the world will be too afraid to ever commit a crime - as in his eyes, this will prevent people from ever going through tragedy, and thus is worth any cost. The division of the  Justice League over this topic is also fascinating, as many who side with the arguably evil Superman do have more heroic intentions, and thus the moral issue of which side is "right" becomes further complicated.

While the Arrowverse would have to do their own spin on the Injustice concept, the overall arc would be a great challenge for the heroes of Earth-Prime. Could they do more to prevent criminals from constantly damaging society over and over again? What would some of these iterations of DC heroes do if given a choice to stand with a  Superman that is willing to guarantee world peace? What alliances would be formed if Arrowverse villains also got involved? The main conflict would be all about exploring a hero's philosophy in how they want to save the world without becoming part of the problem. For the actors, it would also let them get to play new versions of the superheroes that many have been portraying for years.

Not only can this be the way Earth-Prime rediscovers the Multiverse again, but it would be a new high-leveled crossover with a complex story. The best superhero crossovers are always when they have to be challenged in ways that don't focus on whose powers are mightier. Given how popular the Injustice franchise has been as games, it would be amazing to also see it adapted in one way or another to live-action. The Arrowverse, which is almost a decade old now, would be a solid place to play around with Injustice as the next big crossover for The CW.
