Arrow's John Diggle actor David Ramsey says that he doesn't have much of a role in the Crisis on Earth-X crossover event. The CW’s archery-heavy DC Comics drama will link up once again with The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow next week, as heroes unite to fight off Nazi invaders from the dark parallel world known as Earth-X.
Legends star and Arrow alum Brandon Routh already teased an “insane” scene that will see 20 superheroes squeezing into the time-traveling Waverider ship. Meanwhile, Arrow's leading man Stephen Amell has promised fans that the crossover will seem like a “four-hour movie.” However, even with all of that screen-time to go around and all of that space on the Waverider, Diggle has somehow wound up being sidelined.
Asked by CBR about his role in the crossover, Ramsey said, with a laugh, “It’s awesome. It was great. It was very nice, and I had a nice vacation during that time.” He went on to explain that, although Diggle does go along to the wedding of Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen and Candice Patton’s Iris West, he doesn’t have much to do in the crossover other than that:
“I didn’t do a whole lot. But the wedding was great. And I got to sit in on our episode 8, which is the best part of the crossover, and I’ve said this in another interview but Stephen [Amell] and Melissa [Benoist] particularly shine, they really do a fantastic job. I think you guys will enjoy it, both of them, just what they do.”
Eagle-eyed fans may have seen this coming. Diggle is nowhere to be seen in the pictures from the multi-hero Waverider scene, where Team Arrow is represented by Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen, Emily Bett Rickards’ Felicity Smoak, Rick Gonzalez’s Rene Ramirez, Echo Kellum’s Curtis Holt, and Juliana Harkavy’s Dinah Drake. Presumably, Diggle ducks out of the adventure at some point in the story. Perhaps it is Diggle's family that calls him away.
You could argue that this is a bit unfair. Diggle has done a lot of the superhero heavy-lifting on Arrow this season. He’s been leading Team Arrow, wearing the Green Arrow suit, and offering moral support to pretty much everyone while Ollie has been working on his relationship with his son and swanning off on missions with Deathstroke. Now, however, for the biggest superhero event of the season, Oliver is going to suit up and Diggle is going it sit it out.
The CW's Crisis on Earth-X crossover begins Monday, November 27 with Supergirl season 3, episode 8.
