Elizabeth Tulloch has been cast as the intrepid reporter Lois Lane for the 2018 Arrowverse crossover event. Starting with Arrow in 2012, The CW's shared DC superhero TV universe has expanded to encompass The Flash, DC's Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl - all four of which have crossed over over twice now, in 2016's Invasion!" and last year's "Crisis on Earth-X". While 2018's crossover event won't include the Legends, it will introduce a major new player to the franchise in the form of Ruby Rose (The Meg) as Kate Kane aka. Batwoman.

The plan is for Rose to make her debut as Batwoman during this as-yet untitled crossover, before then spearheading her own TV series in 2019. However, her character isn't the only special guest star who's slated to show up during 2018's small screen DC superhero bonanza. Tyler Hoechlin is also confirmed to reprise his Supergirl season 2 role as Kara Zor-El's cousin Kal-El aka. Superman for the event and will be accompanied by his girlfriend and daring Daily Planet journalist, Lois Lane.

Variety is reporting that Tulloch will step into the role of Lois Lane for the 2018 Arrowverse crossover, having only just wrapped her longtime role on The CW's dark supernatural fantasy series Grimm last year. The Lois Lane character has been portrayed in live-action on film and television several times over now, with Amy Adams having played her in DC's cinematic universe for the last five years. Meanwhile, on the small screen, Teri Hatcher (who also plays Rhea on Supergirl) portrayed the character on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman in the 1990s, followed by Erica Durance (another Supergirl costar) and her rendition of a younger Lois on Smallville during the 2000s.

Tulloch has further confirmed the news, via the following Instagram post (which she tweeted from her verified Twitter account):

Lois' sister Lucy Lane was played by Jenna Dewan in Supergirl season 1, but the character (a major in the U.S. army who briefly served as the head of the DEO) hasn't been seen on the show since then. While there's been no indication yet that Lucy will be returning to the Arrowverse for this year's crossover event, it's certainly not outside the realm of possibility - seeing as the storyline will involve not only her sibling, but the Man of Steel himself. In fact, there have been an increasing number of hints that that the three-part event will focus heavily on Kryptonian lore, making anyone with a personal connection to Superman and his allies fair game to pop up along the way.

On the other hand, the Arrowverse crossover has enough on its plate to do already - between the introductions of Gotham City, Batwoman and Lois Lane - so it might be best that only one of the two Lane sisters make an appearance. Tulloch, as mentioned, has a history with The CW and she's a welcome addition to the larger DC TV universe's ensemble, along with her character. At the very least, it will be interesting to see not only how Tulloch's iteration of Lois differs from versions past, but also how (or, rather, if) the Arrowverse continues to utilize the character after the crossover is done and over.
