Despite the many fan theories to the contrary, Arrow hasn't found its Vigilante yet. Arrow fans have been wondering about the identity of Vigilante ever since the character first came in contact with Oliver and his team during the first half of season 5. Producers have been teasing a connection to a character on the show for a while, leading fans to believe that the Vigilante could be someone we already know, especially since we never get to see his face. Numerous theories have developed since he first appeared, and have now been shot down with the revelation that the character hasn't even been cast yet.

Debuting in the seventh episode of the fifth season, "Vigilante", the character has been portrayed as a cold-blooded killer waging a one-man war on crime, much like Marvel's The Punisher. Believing that his ruthless methods are more effective than the Green Arrow's, Vigilante has often clashed with Team Arrow, and has shown a willingness to kill anyone who gets in his way. The character's last appearance on Arrow came when they tried to kill Mayor Queen for covering up the death of Detective Malone.

In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Arrow co-showrunner Wendy Mericle talked about Vigilante's return in season 6 and revealed that the character hasn't even been cast yet:

Oliver Queen as Green Arrow

We are super psyched about that character and about the stories that we have planned. He’ll definitely come back. We left that dangling deliberately in season five knowing that we would bring that character back in season 6. He’ll have a really cool story line, not just in respect to the city, but also with respect to a particular member of the team. We’re intrigued and we’re kind of going through the casting process right now. We’re very excited about it.

When Vigilante first came onto the scene, many fans assumed that Vigilante was district attorney Adrian Chase. The connection made sense, considering that the comic book versions of Chase and Vigilante are the same person. However, a shocking twist revealed that Chase was actually the villain of season 5, Prometheus, making the inclusion of Vigilante a misdirect. It was later stated that in season 6 Vigilante would be finally unmasked to reveal a "very personal" connection to a member of Team Arrow.

The fact that Vigilante has yet to be cast suggests that the character is a person that someone within Team Arrow knows, but not someone that the audience is familiar with. This new knowledge may put an end to fan theories that Vigilante is Curtis' ex-husband, Tommy Merlyn, Captain Pike, or Earth-2 Oliver Queen, but may lead to new ones as fans will continue to speculate over the character's identity.
