Throughout its eight seasons on the air, Arrow portrayed some of the most ambitious storylines ever seen on a superhero TV show. Some seasons were better than others, but the thing they all had in common was that they at least tried to go bigger and better every time, with new ideas forming with every episode.

The drawback with all these big, complicated season-long arcs was that, sometimes, they left smaller storylines unfinished, or they were abruptly concluded or written off with little sense of closure for the faithful fans. Now that the series is officially over, viewers may never see these particular plot points resolved.

The Fate Of Evelyn Sharp

Arrow season 5 - Artemis (Madison McLaughlin)

Evelyn Sharp was a fairly divisive character, even before she betrayed Team Arrow. She first met Oliver Queen in Season 4, where she was pretending to be her recently deceased idol, Laurel Lance, so that she could fight crime and avenge her parents' deaths at the hands of Damien Darhk.

She was then later recruited to become a new member of Team Arrow, but her attitude made her difficult to like. She eventually deferred to Adrian Chase's side and was present when he blew up Lian Yu. However, while almost everyone else escaped, Evelyn's fate was never revealed.

Whatever Happened To Rory Regan?

Ragman talking to woman in Arrow

Like Evelyn, Rory was another young vigilante that Oliver recruited during Season 5 of Arrow. He was also a temporary villain of Team Arrow, as his quest for vengeance was leading him into murderous territory. However, unlike Evelyn, Rory managed to realize the error of his ways and joined Team Arrow full time.

He was a member of the team for about half a season until he used his rags to absorb a nuclear blast. With his magical rags now almost irreparably damaged, Rory left the team to try and figure what he should do next. And that was all we heard from him, besides an occasional cameo in later seasons.

Malcolm Merlyn's Grieving Period

Malcolm Merlyn in his Dark Archer costume in Arrow

Malcolm Merlyn was Arrow's first major antagonist, and one of the most memorable. He was an immoral, merciless murderer of thousands, and yet there was something about him that endeared Malcolm to fans. The fact that he wasn't always like that, and that he clearly cared for his children was certainly a factor.

Malcolm's family values were a big part of his characterization, so fans were understandably confused when they never saw him grieve for his late son, Tommy, who Malcolm had indirectly killed during the Undertaking. Malcolm said later that he regretted Tommy's death but we never saw him mourn.

Thea Queen's Grieving Period

In the show's second season it was revealed that Moira Queen and Malcolm Merlyn had had an affair and that Thea Queen was in fact the daughter of the Dark Archer himself. This was a great revelation, as it meant Oliver and Thea could still remain close while adding depth to Malcolm.

Thea and her dad had a fractious relationship for most of their time on the series, but Malcolm did eventually do the right thing and sacrificed himself to save his daughter. Thea fell into a coma shortly after, but when she woke up, there was no mention of Malcolm, or how she felt about his death.

Felicity And Oliver's Missing Years

Some fans argue that when Felicity Smoak and Oliver Queen got together, they ruined the show. Others counter that they were always going to end up together. However you feel about the couple, there's no denying that the two have some major gaps in their relationship that fans haven't yet seen.

They first left on their own together in between Seasons 3 and 4 but when they left for the second time after/during Season 7, fans weren't shown their adventures. We caught glimpses of their (brief) life together but there could have been a whole spin-off focused on their domestic bliss.

Young William

Oliver's secret son was an interesting addition to Arrow's fourth season, and it posed a lot of unforeseen challenges for Oliver, namely how he struggled to keep him a secret from Felicity. It actually caused the couple to break up for a while but they did eventually get back together again.

William played a much bigger role in Season 6 and in Season 7, William was looked after by Felicity while Oliver was imprisoned. However, this caused him to struggle and so he went to live with his grandparents, and that was that. Oliver never tried that hard to get him back, despite it being safe for him to do so.

Slade Wilson

Slade Wilson was a big reason why the second season of Arrow is considered to be the best. Originally starting out as Oliver's ally on Lian-Yu in Seasons 1 and 2, Slade was given Mirakuru in order to save his life. However, the drug drove him mad and he blamed Oliver for Shado's death.

This leads him to wreak terror in Starling City during Season 2 until he was eventually defeated and locked away on Lian-Yu. However, he returned in Seasons 5 and 6, but after that, he disappeared again. No one really knows quite what happened, although his son has made further appearances on the show.

Malcolm Merlyn's Connection To Vandal Savage

Vandal Savage holds a gun on Legends of Tomorrow

Vandal Savage was the main villain for the first season of Legends Of Tomorrow, but he actually first appeared on an episode of The Flash, during the 2015 crossover between the speedster show and Arrow. The crossover actually acted as a pilot for Legends and so Vandal featured quite heavily.

It took all of Oliver's strength, and Barry Allen traveling back through time, to defeat Vandal Savage and turn him to dust. However, near the end of the second part of the adventure, viewers were shown Malcolm Merlyn picking up the remains of Savage's ashes, hinting at a connection that never came.

Oliver And Nyssa's Marriage

During Arrow's mixed success of a third season, Oliver decided to join the League of Assassins in order to save Starling City, and his friends, from mass slaughter. During that time, he seemingly abandoned his identity, effectively killing Oliver Queen. Happily, though, this was all just a ruse.

During his time with the League, however, Ra's al Gul insisted that he marry his daughter, Nyssa. The two went through with the marriage ceremony (albeit reluctantly). When Oliver escaped the league, he never actually divorced Nyssa. Their marriage was mentioned a few times but was left unresolved.

Star City's Relationship With The Green Arrow

Green-Arrow-Arrow-Season-8-Costume

Star City has had a love/hate relationship with the Green Arrow since the show's conception. In the first few seasons, the police forces hunted down the Hood, as he was technically a murderer back then. However, when Oliver saved the city from Damien Darhk in Season 4, the city warmed to the vigilante.

However, things got awkward again in Season 6, leading Oliver Queen to be tried for the crimes he had committed in the past. He even got sent to Slabside Prison for his actions. However, after his release, he was then accepted as part of the police squad. Please, just make up your mind.
