Stephen Amell from CW's Arrow is set to make a return to the wrestling ring, but this time it won't be in the WWE. Next weekend will mark a big few days for WWE. Pro wrestling's juggernaut will set up shop in Houston for a few days for NXT Takeover, Survivor SeriesRaw, and SmackDown Live. Before that though, NXT will be stopping off in San Antonio and even though it's only a house show, it's shaping up to be quite the night for WWE's third brand.

The main event on that night will feature Drew McIntyre defending his NXT Championship against Adam Cole, just 24 hours before he defends it against Andrade Cien Almas live on the WWE Network. The Adam Cole match has an added twist though, being in San Antonio, NXT  recruited Shawn Michaels to oversee proceedings as special guest referee.

There may be another reason as to why WWE decided to bring in HBK for a house show though. On the very same night in San Antonio, Ring Of Honor (ROH), the second largest wrestling promotion in North America, will also be running a show. It looks like WWE added Michaels to the card as a special guest referee to draw more fans to their show who may have been considering heading to watch ROH instead.

ROH fired back though. NXT may have Shawn Michaels, but ROH's show will feature Arrow star, Stephen Amell. While the promotion hasn't divulged exactly what Amell's role will be, the Arrow star is no stranger to the wrestling business. Amell actually had a match in WWE at SummerSlam 2015. He sided with Neville to take on the team of Stardust and Wade Barrett.

In return, Cody Rhodes also guest starred on Amell's TV show. The two have a good relationship, and it's what led to the Green Arrow's match in WWE a little over two years ago. Again, while it hasn't been confirmed, Amell's upcoming appearance for ROH was orchestrated by Rhodes once again. Whatever angle the promotion decides to run with next Friday will likely include their current World Champion in some way.

When the NXT show was first announced and Shawn Michaels was added to the card, Cody Rhodes certainly had a few things to say about it. In fact, the ROH Champion took to social media and straight up accused WWE of riding on his and the Bullet Club's coattails. A bold statement indeed. That claim was accompanied by an invite to the McMahon family as Rhodes and other members of the Bullet Club offered them 10 percent off their tickets if they do show up. When it comes to fans picking Shawn Michaels or Stephen Amell though, there isn't really much competition. Fans planning to attend the NXT show will likely not be persuaded to change their minds because of Amell's inclusion at ROH, but for fans on the fence, that decision just got a lot more difficult.
