Arrow alumni Stephen Amell gave a humorous response to being recognized in public while wearing hoods. Amell led the series as the billionaire turned vigilante Oliver Queen. Arrow aired for eight seasons on the CW network, running from 2012-2020. The CW had seen success with superhero shows such as Smallville in the past, but Arrow reignited interest in the genre, inspiring the array of shows that now make up the Arrowverse. Although Smallville had already introduced the Green Arrow to the small screen, Amell brought the character to a new generation with his grittier and darker take on the superhero.

Daily life for celebrities can be a bit overbearing due to the paparazzi and constant interruptions by admirers. Being a star on Arrow, one of television's most successful shows in recent years, has made Amell an easily identified public figure and no exception to this. Thanks to his success on Arrow, it is hard to picture Amell without his iconic bow and hood. The association with this mental imagery is something that Amell has come to understand the hard way. Most celebrities hide their faces in public with a large pair of sunglasses or an oversized hoodie, but the method doesn't quite work for Amell.

In a recent social media post to Instagram, Amell explained his issues going out in public without being recognized, especially when wearing a hooded sweater. The caption with the post jokes that he needs to remember to remove his hood when out in public to avoid being recognized.

Amell's selfie shows the actor posing on a bridge sporting a pullover hoodie and earbuds. There are no other people pictured, but his caption suggests that he was not alone. Unfortunately for Amell, wearing a hood attracts attention rather than allowing him to go incognito. He even jokes that fewer people recognize him without the hood! Judging by his somewhat fatigued appearance, the actor was presumably out for a jog when he was identified by an admirer. Amell is known for his workout routines and maintains his fitness for his current show, Heels.

The Arrow actor may be out of luck, regardless of whether he decides to wear the hoodie or not. His character lives two lives throughout the show, one as a wealthy public figure and the other as a ruthless vigilante. In the eyes of many fanatics, Amell is simply recognized as the Green Arrow while wearing a hood and Oliver Queen without it. Maybe he would have more success wearing glasses; after all, it worked for Superman.
