WARNING: Spoilers for Arrow's Series Finale Ahead
David Ramsey won't confirm a future as Green Lantern despite a tease in Arrow's series finale. The flagship series ended tonight after an impressive eight-season run that kicked off the namesake Arrowverse. After the show's exciting conclusion, it leaves behind four other shows: The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman. Additionally, fellow CW show Black Lightning is now also a member of the Arrowverse, thanks to the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Characters from Arrow itself may live on as well, if the proposed spinoff series Green Arrow and the Canaries ends up going to series. As of now, the backdoor pilot for the show has aired, but no series order has been given. The pilot, which viewers saw last week as Arrow's penultimate episode, focused on Oliver's daughter, Mia, in 2040. She was also joined by Arrow stalwarts Dinah Drake and Earth-2 Laurel Lance, who make up the Canaries in the title. A potential pickup for that series could also mean seeing some of the characters fans said goodbye to tonight one more time.
In a THR interview with various creatives involved in Arrow, Ramsey was asked about the big Green Lantern reveal in the series finale. In the episode's last moments, Diggle gets knocked down by a blast from the sky, only to spot a box on the ground. When he opens it, a bright green light is visible. All Ramsey could say is "We'll still see, believe it or not." Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim further explained, "This was something that was worked out over a year ahead with DC Entertainment. We very specifically negotiated and discussed the parameters and I feel like to say anything beyond what we have showed you would violate our agreement with DC."
Though neither Ramsey nor those behind the show could confirm that he'll one day play Green Lantern, there have been signs to suggest it's a possibility. Among the most obvious is the Green Lantern series currently in the works at HBO Max. It comes from Arrowverse mastermind Greg Berlanti, so it would make logical sense for him to team up with a familiar face like Ramsey. Additionally, that Green Lantern show was recently confirmed to have two different Lanterns, doubling the odds for Ramsey to be one of them.
As fans have long hoped that John Diggle would one day take up the mantle of Green Lantern, the series finale surprise was likely a treat for them. Even if nothing ends up coming of it, at least they can enjoy the possibility that Diggle may have become the Green Lantern off screen. Arrow has always been great at surprising fans with fun reveals, so it makes sense that it saved one of the best for last.
