After eight years of saving his city, Oliver Queen’s journey is finally coming to a close, and if the Arrow season 8 and series finale trailer is anything to go by, it’s going to be an emotional goodbye. We’ve knows for some time that this season would close out Oliver’s arc as the Green Arrow but the mystery of how it will end still remains. While the trailer doesn’t give much away, it does set the tone for an emotionally charged finale that will explore the legacy Oliver's Green Arrow has left behind.

The final season of Arrow, overshadowed somewhat by the multi-show crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths, saw Oliver working with The Monitor to prevent the destruction of the multiverse. In doing so, Oliver had to travel to alternate earths, confront enemies from his past, and say goodbye to his loved ones as he prepared himself for the ultimate sacrifice. Along this journey he was reunited with his adult-children, allowing him to get to know the family he willingly gives his life for. In the end, Oliver sacrifices himself to prevent the Anti-Monitor from destroying the multiverse.

Posted by TV Promos, the trailer is light on new scenes, mostly relying on clips from Arrow’s past episodes. There do appear to be a few new scenes towards the end of the clip though. We see a scene with Rene, Laurel, and Dinah holding candles at a vigil; a shot of two geared-up heroes running off a roof; a group shot of the entire Arrow team without Oliver; and the lights being shut off in the Arrowcave. Finally a we see a statue in honor of Oliver’s Green Arrow.

Arrow started in 2012, and follows the story of billionaire playboy Oliver Queen, returning home with a mission of vengeance after being trapped on a deserted island for five years. As his mission evolves into a simple goal, protecting his home of Star City, he is joined by like-minded companions John Diggle and Felicity Smoak, working to stop crime and forming a team that eventually becomes family.

With only one episode of Arrow remaining, it’s tough to imagine how they’re going to wrap this story up, especially with the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths leaving Oliver dead. While we can assume from the trailer there will be a memorial service and statue dedication at some point, the plot for the rest of the episode is open-ended. We do, however, know one character that’s making a return for the Arrow finale is Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity Smoak. In any case it’s safe to assume there’s a few more surprises in store when the Arrow series finale airs next week.
