The latest promo for Arrow season 6 proves that just because Black Siren looks like Laurel, that doesn't mean they have anything else in common. While The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow are usually the Arrowverse shows that traffic in doppelgängers and alternate dimensions, Arrow dipped its toe into that world last year when it brought Black Siren onboard. After debuting on The Flash, the evil Earth Two counterpart of Laurel Lance came over to Arrow to trick Oliver, Lance, and the rest of Team Arrow into thinking that their Laurel was back from the dead.
The sadism of that plan alone proved that Black Siren wasn't Katie Cassidy's typical take on Laurel. As Arrow season 5 progressed, Siren and her work with Prometheus brought her deeper into the narrative. When season 6 arrives, Cassidy will be a series regular and will even come to blows with the new Black Canary. Their conflict should be an interesting one, seeing as they're both metahumans with sonic scream abilities. But can the new Laurel ever be redeemed and continue the legacy of the original?
The CW has released a new promo for Arrow season 6 where Cassidy opens up about Black Siren. In it, she notes that her new character is "damaged goods" this season and will be grappling with the events that occurred on her Earth.
We know that Oliver is dead on Earth Two, as his father ended up surviving the shipwreck and becoming the Green Arrow. It's been hinted at that Black Siren has even more darkness in her past, however. Considering Cassidy's return to the show, we'll likely dive deep into her backstory this season. It's there that any kernel of redemption will be found.
In the meantime, Oliver himself will be working to get to a better place. While we know he'll be a bit lighter and happier this season, the trailers for Arrow season 6 have shown that things won't all be positive. From the return of Slade Wilson to Oliver working on being a father to the chaos on Lian Yu, season 6 will see the Green Arrow working through a whole lot of turmoil.
Given how much Oliver has been through already and all the terrible things that he's done, he will likely be the first to forgive Black Siren. For the other members of Team Arrow however, trust won't come so easy. At the end of the day, however, Arrow is a comic book show and the redemption of murderous psychopaths is par for the course on the series.
Arrow season 6 debuts Thursday, October 12 on The CW.
