Season 5 of Arrow has been somewhat of a return to the early episodes of The CW's flagship DC Comics series, with the main villain Prometheus a consequence of Oliver Queen's (Stephen Amell) actions from season 1. Arrow's latest season has also seen a revitalized vigilante team after the death of Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) and retirement of Thea Queen (Willa Holland) and John Diggle (David Ramsey). However, Dig has since returned to the team, with Thea providing backup as Speedy during the Arrowverse crossover event.

And, in the Arrow season 5 fall finale, it seemed Laurel Lance had returned as well since she appeared in the Team Arrow lair in the final scene of the episode. Now, the first trailer for the winter premiere of Arrow, 'Who Are You?', teases the truth behind Laurel's return as well as the fallout from other aspects of the fall finale.

The CW released the promo [above] for 'Who Are You?', which features a scene of Oliver welcoming Laurel home, as well as one in which Laurel uses a sonic scream - Oliver's response is, "That's not our Laurel," and she says, "Finally, it's about time someone figured it out." Based on the character's sonic scream ability without the help of Cisco Ramon's technology, it seems this is the Earth-2 version of Laurel introduced during season 2 of The Flash who went by the supervillain name Black Siren.

Black Canary Laurel Lance Arrow

In season 2 of The Flash, it was revealed that the Earth-2 version of Laurel was not only a metahuman, but a lieutenant in Zoom's metahuman army, and arrived on Earth-1 to help Zoom defeat The Flash - while taunting Barry Allen about the death of his Earth-1 friend. Last viewers saw of Black Siren, she was knocked out by the device meant to affect Earth-2 metas and locked up in the S.T.A.R. Labs particle accelerator pipeline along with other evil metahumans.

Now it appears Black Siren has broken out of the pipeline and traveled to Star City in order to terrorize Laurel Lance's friends and family - though, if she has another motivation, the trailer for 'Who Are You?' fails to give it away. Additionally, it's unclear if Black Siren is appearing on Arrow as a one-off villain for the winter premiere, or for a somewhat longer character arc. Either way, fans of Arrow who miss seeing both Laurel and Cassidy on the show will likely be excited for her return.

As for other aspects of the 'Who Are You?' trailer, it appears D.A. Adrian Chase (Josh Segarra) has put together the events that led to Billy Malone's (Tyler Ritter) death in the fall finale - and confronts Oliver with those findings - and Dig is ready to face the charges against him. All these story threads, along with the return of Cassidy as some version of Laurel, should make for an exciting winter premiere of Arrow season 5.
