Back in May, it was learned that DC Comic's supernatural-thriller series, Constantine, would not see a second season. Fans were upset, creators attempted to find a new home for the show, and Arrow star Stephen Amell even offered to cameo on Constantine if it continued.
Sadly, Constantine still met its end. However, fans found a silver lining when The CW announced Constantine would guest star in an episode of Arrow season 4. The move not only keeps Matt Ryan's portrayal of the character in play just a little while longer, it also welcomes John Constantine into the DC television universe. And today, we have our first look at that cameo.
CBM has multiple images from the upcoming episode of Arrow, 'Haunted,' set to air next Wednesday. In them, we get our first look at Matt Ryan in full Constantine garb, together with Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, and several other stars of the show. The images also come with this description of the episode:
"When things take a turn for the worse with Sara (guest star Caity Lotz), Oliver (Stephen Amell) calls in a favor from an old friend who deals in the mystical, John Constantine (guest star Matt Ryan). John Badham directed the episode written by Brian Ford Sullivan & Oscar Valderrama."
Take a look at the images below:
Executive producer Marc Guggenheim previously hinted that Constantine would fill a pivotal role in the resurrection of Sara Lance. As fans well know, Sara was resurrected in the Lazarus Pit during last week's 'Restoration' and it hasn't worked out too well for anyone. With Constantine's familiarity with the supernatural, it seems clear Team Arrow will use him to help Sara regain whatever it was that was lost in death, or came back with her from the Pit.
While it's not as good as an official second season (on NBC or elsewhere) of the series, for fans of Constantine, this guest spot at least helps keep the dream alive that Matt Ryan can hold onto the role for a little longer. If nothing else, seeing John Constantine hanging out with Green Arrow and Black Canary may be enough for interested parties to see a future for the character where he once again headlines his own series.
Arrow continues next Wednesday with 'Haunted' The CW.
