The CW’s new hit superhero drama Arrow may have opened with a ratings bang, but the series - based on DC Comic’s emerald archer Green Arrow - is looking to keep newly-hooked fans coming back, and to that end the show is rolling out even more explosive vengeance and comic book cameos.
At this year’s New York Comic-Con, DC Comics and the CW released an epic new two-minute, supervillian-packed trailer, which shows that Starling City’s budding hero will have to run through a gamut of some of the DCU’s most fearsome assassins and trained killers before he has any hope of cleansing the hometown streets his own father helped to taint.
The new Arrow season 1 montage gives fans a sneak peek at highly-anticipated DC Comics characters China White (Kelly Hu) and Deadshot (Michael Rowe) trading bullets and blows with the hooded vigilante - who’s greatest enemy may come in the form of Detective Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne), a man who bears a hash grudge not only against the lawless Arrow, but also against his alter-ego Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), whom he blames for the death of his youngest daughter, Sarah.
Torchwood‘s John Barrowman - currently only known as the “Well-Dressed Man” - also makes a split-second appearance in this trailer, and it seems that he too will pose a threat to both Arrow and Oliver, as well as having a mysterious tie to Oliver’s very shady mother, Moira Queen (Susanna Thompson).
Despite the multiple bullets Arrow and Oliver will have to dodge (in and out of costume), the vengeful vigilante will have some much-needed backup inside the law, thanks to legal aid attorney and ex-girlfriend, Laurel Lance (who is loosely based on DC Comic super heroine Black Canary). Even though Laurel is currently unaware of the identity of the man under the hood, she feels a strong connection to Arrow and recognizes the necessity of what he’s doing, which ultimately causes her to assist him.
Taking a more proactive role in Arrow’s fight is Black Canary’s Birds of Prey companion, Helena Bertinelli - AKA The Huntress (Jessica De Gouw) - who will cross paths with the emerald archer on a mission to take down her mafia boss father. Although Arrow prefers to hunt alone, with the major threat of deadly assassin (and possible mentor) Deathstroke the Terminator setting up shop in Starling City, Arrow may have to accept a superhero assist whenever he can.
