Times are tough in Starling City, the home of the CW's DC superhero show Arrow. Ever since the return of Oliver Queen and the introduction of his crime-fighting alter ego (who has so far been dubbed "the Vigilante," "the Hood" and "the Arrow"), both heroes and villains have been crawling out of the woodwork and now they're starting to get superpowers.
One such villain who fell foul of Sebastian Blood's attempts to create an army of super-soldiers was Xavier Reed AKA the Mayor, whose short-lived and unofficial tenure included a showdown with Oliver and the then-mysterious newcomer, Black Canary. With the second half of Arrow season two right around the corner, the CW has released a behind-the-scenes look at how Green Arrow and Black Canary work together as a vigilante team.
Arrow stunt coordinator James 'Bam-Bam' Bamford has over twenty years of experience in the industry, including working on the X-Men movies and all three Stargate TV shows. In a new featurette for the first half of Arrow's second season, Bamford explains how the fight between the Mayor, Green Arrow and Black Canary was planned and rehearsed before filming.
One of the more interesting aspects of that particular fight was Black Canary and Green Arrow temporarily switching weapons - Oliver wielding a staff with proficiency and Sara demonstrating keen accuracy with a bow (insert "arrow to the knee" joke here). Green Arrow's signature weapon has already demonstrated a number of diverse uses such as its deployment of trick arrows or the bow's baddie-bashing capabilities in close quarters, but perhaps we might see him changing things up again in future fights.
While it would be nice to predict a peaceful future for Starling City, don't be surprised if there are a lot more fights like this one on the horizon.
Arrow returns to the CW on January 15th, 2014.
