Although CW’s The Flash is a spinoff of the network’s other superhero drama, Arrow, the new series has seen record-breaking success, entertaining both fans of the comics and casual viewers alike. However, before The Flash debuted, The CW’s superhero universe architects had a big crossover event planned for each show’s eighth episode this season -- in addition to the appearance of Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) in The Flash’s fourth episode.

The recently released episode synopses revealed Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), Felicity, and John “Dig” Diggle (David Ramsey) will be visiting Barry Allen’s (Grant Gustin) home of Central City. But, as the result of an argument -- and some metahuman influence -- Barry and Oliver end up squaring off in “Flash vs. Arrow”, the first part of the crossover event.

Now, The CW has released a large batch of images from the crossover episode featuring Barry, Oliver, Felicity, and Dig as well as members of Barry’s team: Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker), Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes), Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanaugh), and Joe West (Jesse L. Martin). Some behind-the-scenes photos from the filming of “Flash vs. Arrow” are also featured:

The new photos offer little extra insight into “Flash vs. Arrow”; rather, they mainly depict aspects of the episode revealed in the synopsis - especially in the scenes between Barry and Oliver. How Felicity will factor into the episode and what role she will play in the argument and subsequent fallout between the two heroes remains to be seen - though she may act as a link between Team Arrow and Team Flash.

If the lack of story insights in these photos is disappointing, fans may at least be able to take heart in the parallels between some of the images and the first teaser that was released for The Flash, which featured Barry racing against one of Oliver’s arrows and winning. It seems viewers will be treated to a similar scene in “Flash vs. Arrow” which may prove that these two can stand on their own, but are stronger together -- at least in terms of entertainment.

The Flash continues next Tuesday with “Power Outage” @8pm on The CW; “Flash vs. Arrow” will air Tuesday December 2nd @8pm on The CW.

Arrow continues tonight with “Draw Back Your Bow” @8pm on The CW; “The Brave and the Bold” will air Wednesday December 3rd @8pm on The CW
