Netflix debuts the official trailer for Army of Thieves, which provides a better look at the prequel to Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead. After Snyder's exit from the DC Extended Universe, Netflix made a big play to bring the popular filmmaker to its ranks. Army of the Dead was the first film in a new zombie franchise developed by Snyder, and the streaming service is already gearing up for the release of the second movie, Army of Thieves. The prequel film is directed by Matthias Schweighöfer, who also stars as the expert safecracker, Ludwig Dieter.

After the popularity of Army of the Dead and the positive response it received, many are ready to explore the zombie-infested world Snyder created further. Army of Thieves takes place right near the start of the zombie outbreak that Army of the Dead explored, but this installment is largely without zombies. The movie instead follows Dieter and his crew, which includes Nathalie Emmanuel and Ruby O. Fee, as they attempt to pull off a dangerous heist. Fans got a glimpse of Army of Thieves earlier this year when the teaser trailer arrived.

With just a month to go until Army of Thieves starts streaming on Netflix, the official trailer full the Army of the Dead prequel has arrived. The trailer was one of the final pieces of marketing to come from Netflix's TUDUM virtual event. The new Army of Thieves trailer provides a better look at the story Snyder wrote with Shay Hatten and should get fans more excited to see the movie on October 29, 2021.

The main focus of Army of Thieves' official trailer is introducing the team that Dieter works with. It reveals that the plan is to rob three different safes all owned by casino owner Bly Tanaka, who Hiroyuki Sanada played in Army of the Dead. Dieter's expertise as a safecracker is what brings Gwendoline (Nathalie Emmanuel) to recruit him to her heist team. The Army of Thieves trailer shows how self-aware it is of the heist movie genre by having Dieter acknowledge how each person on the team has a specific skill set. This includes the hacker Korina (Ruby O. Fee), the getaway driver Rolph (Guz Khan), and the muscle/action hero Brad Cage (Stuart Martin).

With the release of this official trailer for Army of Thieves, the differences between it and Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead only become more apparent. It's a refreshing difference to see when it comes to the tone of a Snyder project and a smart way to expand the franchise. There is also a great opportunity for the movie to set up the events of Dieter's future appearance or the Army of the Dead anime prequel series, Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas. In any case, Army of Thieves looks to be an action-packed and enjoyable heist film that will likely make Dieter's status as a fan-favorite character only grow.
