Army Of The Dead: Zack Snyder Reveals First Look At Netflix Zombie Film

Zack Snyder reveals the first look at Army of the Dead, his Netflix zombie movie starring Dave Bautista. After spending the last several years creating a sprawling story with DC characters, Snyder is going back to his roots for his next project. He made his directorial debut with a zombie-action movie Dawn of the Dead, which was a remake of the George A. Romero classic written by James Gunn. For years, Snyder has wanted to return to the zombie genre and is finally doing so with his new movie.

Army of the Dead was picked up by Netflix earlier this year and is set to be Snyder's first feature-length directing gig since he left Justice League (and his larger plans for the DCEU) behind. The movie is based around a group of mercenaries who invade Las Vegas, which has been quarantined off due to a zombie outbreak. But, they are going there to pull off "the greatest heist ever attempted." Snyder recently announced that filming was beginning on Army of the Dead and has now shared a photo of the ensemble ready to kill zombies.

Snyder revealed the first look image of Army of the Dead on his Vero account and it shows the entire cast suited up and ready for zombie combat. Snyder's caption reads, "Couldn't make it to #SDCC2019 because we're busy killing zombies #AOTD #firstlook." The group of mercenaries will be led by Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista (pictured farthest right). Take a look at the ensemble below:

Joining Bautista in the photo is (from left to right) Raúl Castillo (Unsane), Ana de la Reguera (Power), Chris D'Elia (Alone Together), Huma Qureshi (Gangs of Wassypur), Ella Purnell (Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children), Garret Dillahunt (Fear the Walking Dead), Nora Arnezeder (Mozart in the Jungle), Matthias Schweighöfer (You Are Wanted), and Omari Hardwick (Power). Purnell is reportedly playing the daughter of Bautista's character, while the rest of the assembled crew are the mercenaries hired to help protect them from the zombies. Based on their many guns - and Hardwick's giant saw - expect them do a good job and for plenty of violence to ensue.

The cast of Army of the Dead may not be as star-studded as some of Snyder's more recent films, but he has assembled a talented, diverse cast for the Netflix film. In fact, this is not believed to be the entire cast of the movie. Theo Rossi (Luke Cage) was previously linked to the film, while a recent filming announcement included Hiroyuki Sanada (Westworld), Samantha Win (Mortal Kombat: Legacy), and Rich Cetrone (Sleepy Hollow) as cast members. Their absence from this photo is telling, as it means there will be other human characters this gang encounters along the way, or maybe even zombies. Now that production is underway, we may not learn too much more about Army of the Dead, but Snyder's usual Vero activity may continue to provide additional looks at filming and the characters.
