Netflix has revealed new data projecting Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead to be one of the most popular original films on the streaming service. After working on developing the project for over a decade at prior home studio Warner Bros., Snyder's Dawn of the Dead spiritual successor was acquired by Netflix and saw a fast-tracked development and production cycle as the platform was eager to work with the former DC Extended Universe filmmaker. The ensemble cast for the film includes Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Ana de la Reguera, Theo Rossi, Matthias Schweighöfer, Nora Arnezeder, Tig Notaro, and Raúl Castillo.

The story of the blockbuster pic sees a group of mercenaries hired to recover $200 million in a vault deep under a Las Vegas casino. The catch is that it will be no ordinary heist as the Entertainment Capital of the World has been walled off from the public due to a zombie outbreak decimating the town. With the U.S. government electing to nuke the town to decimate the outbreak, the group must race against the clock to get rich in the hardest fight of their lives.

Just a week after its premiere on the streaming platform, NetflixFilm revealed on Twitter that Army of the Dead is projected to be one of its biggest releases. It has also revealed the large number of households the zombie heist pic has already been streamed in. See the data below:

Though the film may not have resonated with all critics and audiences, it was clear pretty early on that Army of the Dead was set to be a big success for Netflix. From the filmmaker already having a major fan base from his comic book adaptations to the high they were riding with HBO Max's Justice League, it would've been a surprise if the viewership didn't carry over from one streamer to the other for Snyder. While its box office numbers are still relatively low, the sheer fact that 72 million households are on track to watch the film within a month of its debut on Netflix is still very impressive.

Given the streaming platform also doubled down on the project with both a live-action prequel film and anime series, the projected success and early numbers for Army of the Dead points towards Netflix making the right decision about putting their faith in the project. Plus, with his teases of a potential sequel and feeling of liberation developing the world of the zombie apocalypse for Netflix, Snyder certainly has a bright future at the streamer. Fans should keep their eyes open as the prequel Army of Thieves is slated to hit Netflix later this year.
