Army of the Dead looks to be full of fascinating characters, but who are our protagonists, and what jobs do they each have in the Las Vegas heist? Releasing on Netflix May 21, Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead brings a simple but effective premise to the table. A zombie outbreak spreads from Area 51 to Las Vegas, where the military are able to contain it using force. The undead are barricaded within Vegas and guarded by the military. No one in their right mind would go back in there, not even on the promise of free cocktails and an undead Elvis.

But what about $200 million stashed away in a vault beneath a casino? Army of the Dead sends a battle-hardened bunch of heroes into Las Vegas, armed to the teeth, with the intention of taking a cool share of the cash left below the abandoned Sin City. The Army of the Dead trailer offers a closer look at the film's main protagonists, while other details have been revealed in interviews, set visits, and official synopses. Who would be insane enough to charge headfirst into a rotting horde for a hefty cash reward? This lot would.

Scott Ward (Dave Bautista) - The Leader. The Army of The Dead: Lost Vegas prequel will reveal that Scott led the charge against the undead when the outbreak began. Now he's taking his surviving comrades back into the same mess, this time with eyes on the prize. Before the outbreak, however, Scott dreamed of settling down and owning a food truck. He's also got a daughter named Kate, who will feature in the film.

Dave Bautista Stars as Scott Ward in Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead.

Kate Ward (Ella Purnell) - The Volunteer. Kate is Scott's daughter who is described as a "selfless humanitarian," and their relationship is far from easy. Her role in the group isn't to score a big casino win, but to rescue her Geeta, a mother who is trapped inside the Vegas quarantine zone.

Geeta (Huma Qureshi) - The Mother. Geeta is a mom who heads into Vegas to get enough money to save her family, but is never heard from again in the aftermath of her mission.

Vanderohe (Omari Hardwick) - The Tank. Seen in the trailer cradling a circular saw with his top off, there are no prizes for guessing Vanderohe's role on Scott's team. Zombie killing is his business, and business is good. As for the man behind the zombie killing, Vanderohe is a mystery, though he has a softer side and works in a retirement home before reuniting with the Las Vengeance team according to Deborah Snyder.

Marianne Peters (Tig Notaro) - The Pilot. Specializing in helicopters, Marianna is a pilot and a mechanic who spends the majority of the film trying to get the helicopter to work for the Las Vengeance team. She's more than likely the one piloting the chopper in the trailer.

Ludwig Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer) - The Thief. Not part of Scott's original team, but a German safe-cracker whose backstory will be told in the Army of Thieves prequel. In Army of the Dead, he joins because he's the only one capable of breaking into the safe at the casino, though he has little experience actually fighting zombies.

Lilly "The Coyote" (Nora Arnezeder) - The One Who Knows Her Stuff. Another new addition to Scott's crew, Coyote takes the lead as the gang enter Vegas, possessing better knowledge of the undead than any of the others. She doesn't have a specific backstory, but she helps refugees enter Vegas casinos to take money.

Maria Cruz (Ana de la Reguera) - The Mechanic. Seen in the Army of the Dead trailer working in a garage shop, Cruz is Scott's trusted friend and the team's mechanic, responsible for any engineering difficulties that may arise. According to Deborah Snyder, there is "some tension there and some playfulness" between Scott and Cruz, who put the team together before being separated.

Martin (Garret Dillahunt) - The Inside Man. If you're going to rob a casino at any point in your life, let alone during a zombie apocalypse, it's best to have someone on board who's familiar with the target. Martin was the casino's head of security back when Vegas' biggest problems were drunks and card counters. He joins the team to supervise and his motivations remain murky.

Mikey Guzman (Raúl Castillo) - The Sharpshooter. Prior to the zombie outbreak, Mikey was a YouTuber and social media influencer who gains subscribers by posting about how many kinds of ways he can kill zombies. He's also one the team's best shooters when it comes to zombies despite a lack of combat training.

Chambers (Samantha Win) and Burt Cummings (Theo Rossi) - The Muscle. Chambers is Mikey's "ride-or-die," who joins the team to protect him. Meanwhile, Burt is a former security guard added to the gang alongside Martin at Coyote's request. Chambers is skilled at killing zombies like Mikey. However, Cummings is a "king of villain" according the Deborah Snyder.

Zeus (Rich Cetrone) - Patient Zero. Zeus is patient zero who escapes Area 51. When he bites someone, it automatically turns them into an alpha, though Zack Snyder suggests his character is meant to be sympathetic due to the unforeseen circumstances.

Hunter Bly (Hiroyuki Sanada) - The Client. The man sending Scott on his mission. The target casino was once owned by Hunter, and he wants his money back so badly, he's willing to share it with Army of the Dead's heroes.
