Armor Wars Can Bring Back 1 MCU Character We've Not Seen Since Endgame

Many characters from the MCU past can return in the upcoming film, Armor Wars, including one that hasn't been seen since Avengers: Endgame. Originally planned as a Disney+ series, Armor Wars was announced to be reworked into a feature film in September 2022, following on from 2023's Secret Invasion event. It will see Don Cheadle's return as James "Rhodey" Rhodes from the Iron Man films, who has to confront a difficult situation when Stark tech falls into the wrong hands. Armor Wars could potentially feature several characters from Tony Stark's life, including one of his closest confidantes.

Pepper Potts had always been a key player in Stark's MCU journey, going from assistant, to lover, to wife, and eventually taking up the moniker of Rescue to become a superhero in her own right. Though Pepper joined the climactic Battle of Earth during the final act of Avengers: Endgame, the character hasn't been seen or mentioned since. Despite this, with Armor Wars set to deal directly with the effects of Stark's passing on the MCU, it's likely that Pepper could make her long-awaited return. Pepper's return as the MCU's Rescue alongside Rhodey's War Machine would be the perfect tribute to Stark, potentially playing a very important role in Armor Wars.

Pepper Potts' Rescue Return Can Perfectly Honor Iron Man's Legacy

The reveal of Pepper Potts as Rescue during Avengers: Endgame was very well received, so Marvel Studios would be missing a trick by omitting the character from Armor Wars. She acts as one of the more recent examples of Tony Stark's impact on the world of the MCU, coming after his friendship with Rhodey, his mentorship of Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spider-Man, and his constant development of technology and real estate for the Avengers. Rescue's return in Armor Wars would be the perfect ode to Stark, allowing the original MCU superhero's wife to carry on his legacy in his place, even teaming up with his former partner akin to the events of Iron Man 2 and Iron Man 3.

What Rescue's Return Would Mean For Armor Wars' Story

Tony Stark's death in Avengers: Endgame had a huge impact throughout the MCU, but it surely hit Rhodey and Pepper harder than anyone else. Even so, recent Phase 4 projects haven't investigated the effects of Stark's passing on these characters, and though Cheadle is set to return in Secret Invasion, Armor Wars will explore these themes more than any other Marvel project. If Pepper Potts returns to the MCU during Armor Wars, it'll be the first time audiences will have seen Stark's immediate family since his death, perhaps even reintroducing his daughter, Morgan, who last received a mention during Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Pepper's return in Armor Wars would also fit perfectly into the over-arching story, since Rhodey will be dealing with Stark tech being acquired by nefarious forces, attention could be drawn to Pepper's possession of the Rescue suit. Now that the Sokovia Accords have been revoked, there's nothing to stop Pepper operating as a superhero, whether that be fighting with Rhodey to recapture Stark's old tech, or even potentially working as a vigilante with Rhodey trying to take the Rescue suit from her. Not much has yet been confirmed about Armor Wars, aside from the returns of Cheadle and Ant-Man and the Wasp's Walton Goggins, but the upcoming film is set to be a huge event that would benefit massively by bringing Pepper Potts' Rescue back to the MCU.
