A new series of fan posters for the MCU’s upcoming Armor Wars show imagine what Jon Bernthal’s Punisher could look like in the series. With rumors of Charlie Cox’s Daredevil returning in Spider-Man 3 or potentially in a Disney+ revival, eyes have turned to some other popular Marvel characters from Netflix’s Defenders universe. The Punisher is certainly one of the most popular of the bunch, and it would be interesting to see Bernthal’s version brought to the MCU properly.

The Punisher’s future in the Marvel universe has been called into question by some after his logo was worn by several far-right extremists in the recent riots at the US Capitol. The Capitol invasion, which many have called an act of terrorism and sedition, has caused many Punisher fans to call for Marvel to retire the Punisher character permanently, or at least to retire his logo. As of now, the vigilante remains one of Marvel’s most popular characters.

Bernthal’s rendition of Frank Castle has been celebrated by fans of the comics, so it’s no surprise to see some of those fans pushing for the actor to return to the role in Armor Wars. Instagram-based artist MUZE recently made their own case, posting a series of three fan posters imagining Bernthal in the MCU. The images show Frank Castle in the War Machine suit spray-painted with the Punisher’s signature skull, just as he appears in the comic story where he temporarily donned the armor himself.

The Netflix Marvel series have become a much-discussed topic lately as Disney begins rolling out its own MCU original series. The Defenders universe, which includes The Punisher, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist, was heavily lauded critically for most of its installments and received widespread praise from viewers. Because those versions of the eponymous characters became so popular so quickly, fans have been calling for proper MCU revivals on Disney+.

Daredevil has been at the center of the Defenders conversation since the screen rights reverted to Disney, with both Charlie Cox’s titular hero and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin rumored to appear in Spider-Man 3. Daredevil kicked off the Netflix chain of Marvel series, and it remains one of the most successful and acclaimed modern superhero adaptations. The Punisher was also a big hit though, and MUZE’s posters are a testament to how much fans came to love Bernthal’s version of the character. The exact details of Armor Wars have yet to be disclosed.
