The docuseries House of Hammer, which purports to reveal the dark and twisted secrets of Armie Hammer and his family, now has an official trailer and release date. Hammer is an actor who first rose to prominence playing both Winklevoss twins in David Fincher's Oscar-winning film The Social Network. Since then, Hammer has worked in both well-regarded awards bait films like Call Me By Your Name and blockbuster fare including the 2022 Poirot mystery Death on the Nile. Hammer is part of a wealthy family dynasty, the grandson of industrialist and oil magnate Armand Hammer. While his grandfather and father have both been embroiled in their own controversies in the past, Hammer himself was recently accused of emotional abuse, manipulation, and violence against women, causing him to drop out of several high-profile projects.

House of Hammer will be presented as a three-part docuseries on Discovery Plus. The series was developed by Armie's aunt Casey Hammer as an adaptation and expansion of her 2015 tell-all Surviving My Birthright, and was picked up by ID and Discovery Plus in May of this year. The series will focus on the history of the Hammer family told in her book, while adding more material about the recent allegations against the youngest Hammer.

This week, Discovery Plus debuted the official House of Hammer trailer. It focuses on two interviews with Hammer's former girlfriends, going into detail about the accusations against the actor, complete with chilling texts, notes, images, and even audio and video recordings of Hammer himself. They then expand out to tease that this behavior wasn't created in a vacuum, as Casey Hammer describes her family as what happens if one magnifies the hit HBO series Succession "a million times." In the trailer, they also revealed that the series will premiere on Friday, September 2, less than a month from now. Check out the trailer below:

While this kind of true crime content isn't unusual for the Discovery Plus service, there is something particularly chilling about this trailer. Certainly, the reason it has been rushed to the screen is the fact that it has to do with a widely publicized case involving a high-profile celebrity. However, the recency of the events in question and the fact that it involves such a notable public figure who could be seen on theater screens opposite big stars like Gal Gadot as recently as this February, and whose story hasn't been exhaustively plumbed just yet, make for a startling combination.

House of Hammer will certainly be one of the most troubling documentaries to be released in 2022. With its release date so near, it will be interesting to see if there is any comment made by the actor or his team before it premieres. Considering this situation is still developing, the documentary is in a unique position to be a vital part of the conversation around the actor's allegations.
