News of Armie Hammer possibly playing the role of Batman in the next DCEU movie came in hot and while the rumor has been shot down, it’s pretty much common knowledge that anyone expected to take on the role of the Dark Knight won’t be universally loved, but that’s what makes the gossip so fun.

While there were a lot of different reactions before Warner Brothers set the record straight about The Batman, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t fun while it lasted. Like always, the internet had some fun when reacting to the potential of Armie Hammer as Batman, so we’ve compiled our favorite reactions from that fleeting moment when everyone thought Illya Kuryakin was going to be Bruce Wayne.

Thumbs Up

Casting decisions for superhero movies are always met with a vocal backlash, but that wasn’t necessarily the case for Armie Hammer. Sure, there were detractors, but it seemed like there was more love than hate.

With a simple thumbs up, this movie fan threw his support behind the Lone Ranger. It’s not hard to see why either. The rumored caped crusader has a solid resume and has the classic good looks that are needed to pull off a Bruce Wayne. On paper, this is a good casting option.

Batman & Robin Reunite On-Screen

Speaking of his resume, Armie Hammer has played quite a few roles that got the attention of the masses. Most recently, his work as Oliver, the 24-year-old graduate student who falls in love with a 17-year-old Elio Perlman (played by Timothée Chalamet) in 2017’s Call Me By Your Name definitely raised his stock as an actor.

It’s pretty easy to take any scene from this movie and slap a “Batman and Robin” tag on it and call it a day, but we’ll still laugh every time we see it. We had a good chuckle at this one.

A Little Too Enthusiastic

One day, we want to be able to get as excited as Meryl Streep during Patricia Arquette’s Oscars speech.

We were pretty surprised to see the number of positive responses Hammer got when the rumor started to pick up steam. Yet in reality, this was just one of many pledges of support for the 32-year-old leading man. We’d like to take the role of Jennifer Lopez here and show some quiet support behind Streep.

Sad Batman 2.0

Maybe the poster was so excited because we can get a “Sad Batman 2”. It’s pretty important for the character these days, we hear.

In 2014, Ben Affleck took part in an interview for the upcoming Batman Vs Superman, and it became a moment in pop culture for the rest of the decade. While we now know the movie itself wasn’t what we expected, at the time, everyone was couldn't help but be distracted by Affleck’s strange and sad looks throughout the conversation. Ironically enough, that set the tone for the DCEU going forward, as the original vision for the franchise was something dark and brooding, so maybe Affleck was just into character acting 24/7.

Regardless, it spawned a hilarious meme and here we are five years later digging it up for another actor who may or may not don the cape.

Nope, Nope, Nope, Nope

Not everyone was as welcoming as the last two citizens of the internet, however. As we said, no Batman will ever be universally accepted before their first movie and this Twitter user spoke for a lot of people when using the only acceptable Kardashian gif on the internet.

Here we see Kris Jenner walking into a home only to find a naked dude around the corner. Yelling and screaming “Oh my God” won’t save Batman though, it never has.

A Man From U.N.C.L.E

On a more positive note, we’re all for seeing Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer join forces in the DCEU as Superman and Batman respectively. They were pretty great together in A Man From U.N.C.L.E. and, as this Twitter user says, that movie is criminally underrated.

Sitting at a 66 % on Rotten Tomatoes, we won't delve into whether that's fair or not, however, Hammer and Cavill were pretty great together all things considered. At the very least, the two would have built-in chemistry that the film franchise desperately needs.

Forget Batman, What About Robin?

Maybe we could get that Nightwing movie we’ve wanted instead.  We know Hammer can look good with just the eyes covered, but we think he probably wants everyone to forget he was in 2013’s The Lone Ranger alongside Johnny Depp.

Hey, we’re not going to judge in this article, but that movie is sitting at a 31 % on Rotten Tomatoes, yet we don’t think that’s the lead actor’s fault. There were a lot of other issues.  Still, at least we could get a Batman who has some experience wearing a mask, whatever that’s worth.

Tall Batman Is Really Tall

There is one issue with Armie Hammer as Batman, however. He’s a giant. Seriously, we’re not overstating this — the man is massive. Standing at 6’5’’, he’s a little taller than Henry Cavill’s Superman who’s around 6’1’’. We’re not saying that’s a bad thing, it would just be weird to see a situation where Superman is that noticeably shorter than Batman.

Maybe that extra reach could give The Dark Knight an edge over The Man Of Steel.

Take All My Money

Maybe that's why this fan is so ready to give Warner Brothers all his money. Instead of grumbling over semantics like us dorks over here, he’s readying his wallet for whatever DC throws at him, assuming that “whatever” is Armie Hammer as Batman.

We like your optimism, kid. Keep it up.

The Reality Check

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end eventually. DC denied reports suggesting Armie Hammer would play Batman and this one post sums up how a lot of fans felt.

Sometimes, we just need a reality check from inspirational speaker Iyanla Vanzant and we couldn’t find a better way to put a bow on the entire ordeal. In a weirdly relatable moment, the clip actually originated when Kizzy, the woman crying, was looking to build a relationship with her mother who abandoned her for a life of drugs and it was up to Vanzant to drop a truth bomb.

Somehow, this clip works beautifully.
