Netflix has released the trailer for its children's musical Arlo the Alligator Boy. This latest sumptuously animated 2D adventure comes from first-time feature director Ryan Crego, who launched his career in the art and animation departments on family films like Shrek Forever After and Shrek-spinoff Puss in Boots. Michael J. Woodard, known for his Top 5 run on Season 16 of American Idol, will voice the titular reptilian youngster.

Netflix's new trailer for Arlo the Alligator Boy provides a closer look at a project that the streaming giant announced last fall. After learning that the father he's never known is living in New York City, Arlo leaves his swamp behind to head to the Big Apple, encountering a whole host of zany characters along the way.  The positive-vibes-only tale features a talented voice cast behind Woodard, including Grammy-nominee Mary Lambert as Bertie, Queer Eye's Jonathan Van Ness as Furlecia, and Veep's Tony Hale as Teeny Tiny Tony. Scheduled for an April 16th release, Arlo the Alligator Boy will mark another addition to Netflix's impressive and growing library of kid-friendly content. But Arlo won't stop there. His film debut will be followed up by I Heart Arlo, a 20-episode streaming series created by Crego set to debut sometime in 2021. Netflix going all-in on the concept is great news for fans of the peppy alligator boy and perhaps even more so for parents on the lookout for bright, forward-thinking children's entertainment.
